Changes to Builder/Completionist
DIR By: village_lunatic

---------------------------------------------------------
With the removal of most of the kit commands, builder is the
only "free" way to get them back. You can also just pay, and
become VIP.. and get all of the same perks, plus more. This
leaves absolutely no incentive for a VIP to work towards
builder.. or even for non-vip's to try and get it, because it's
easy to just think "Nah, I'll donate next (whenever) and get all
that anyway.) As such, builder needs to have a few things added
or changed. Nothing unreasonable, or server breaking.. but
those of us who are willing to put in the work on builds, able
to con(vince) people to sign off on books, and willing to pay
the cash for the rank should get something that's outside the
norm, which you don't get just for being VIP.
Simple ideas being
- Additional, unique kits
Ideally these would reflect on the achievement, which is
"builder".
An armor kit, including helmet with Respiration and Aqua
Affinity on it, and boots with Feather Fall.. say usable every
few days - as an example.
Also, maybe a redstone kit that gives a small amount of powder,
a couple redstone torches, a repeater or two, maybe a
comparator. (Just enough so that, if you're just shy of
finishing a project, you can just /kit it.)
- Permanent Buffs
Low level buffs that reflect on the achievement, such as Haste
or Jump (similar to pyramid effects, but not as powerful as a
large pyramid)
- Admin Shop Access
A small admin shop specially for builders, with a limited
selection of items that are a bit more difficult to get. **To
prevent econ issues, builders would not be permitted to set up
shops selling these item types, or items that can be made from
them, if they use the admin shop.
- Money
Essentially, the Jobs plugin, but limited to builders. No
leveling, just a very small amount of money, and only for placed
blocks. Nothing to get rich on, just a way to get a little
extra pocket change for those of us who put in build effort.
- Commands
Again, nothing game breaking.. one suggestion I saw that was
great was /top (put you in the first open space directly above
your head)
- Pets
So far, pets are just for show.. if they're not going to be made
combat useable, perhaps a second pet for builders? Not really
related, but it's something different.. and with so few of us
shouldn't trouble the server too much (I think)
No doubt there are other ideas out there - and likely a lot of
"that's not fair!" complaints about these suggestions.. if you
don't like 'em, please give us some other ones. Yes, I'm trying
to promote my own rank here, but it's something not very many
have worked for (and gotten), even though it's reasonably
possible for anybody to get.. given time and effort.

I'm not aware of any plugin for Bukkit that allows 'buffs'
without the use of a Beacon, but perhaps a /kit giving something
like Fire Res/Speed pots?

We want our donators to stay as donators because making them a
VIP/Builder proved as redundant and annoying to manage in
SupraCraft.
However, the permissions inherited from Builder to VIP could
in-fact be cloned with a hidden Trusted2 rank.
This would then make Builder more of a rank to strive for while
keeping VIP still somewhat the higher tier rank without need to
desire a downgrade.
The new kits, I could definitely add as well. Although I am not
sure about how to go about adding the buffs.
- Other than have a beacon kit, haha.
(Xu's idea of pots work too!)
The shop idea seems nice too, a place to spend all that small
jobs money obtained (However, we will need to find an
alternative plug-in with your suggested caps).
Commands such as /Top and /Jump are still planned along with
possible colored nameplates.
Pets will probably stay as-only cosmetically useful as possible,
and only one. Without skills, more than one just seems
un-necessary at the moment.
Overall, great ideas Lunatic. Hopefully you receive more
feedback so we can move on any of these changes.

I never intended for Builder to supersede VIP, just that it
should be DIFFERENT than VIP. As far as the trusted2 rank.. I'm
tired and on pain meds. if that makes it work - awesome. :P

I like this general idea. Instead of a second pet however, why
not allow builders to get non hostile mobs? Vips gets access to
nearly all mobs and trusted get wolf and ocelot. Why not put
builder in the middle and allow them cows, sheeps, pigs,
chickens, etc?

That's kinda against the idea here, jake. The idea is not to
give builder more stuff that you can get if you just become
vip.. the idea is to make builder different from vip, give
reason to want both instead of just skipping over builder for
vip.

Oh, I didn't think of it that way. I barely use my pet to be
honest. How about giving builders pet beacon? You can set pets
to have a beacon effect on their owner. give staff and builders
pet beacon. Would that be a good idea?

The thing was, VIP originally had access to the beacon on their
pet.
However, shortly after the plug-in's release... The console gave
an error after a certain player issued the command to do so.
:P Being pets were and still are for cosmetic purposes
only-really, making them anything more is low priority on the
massive to-do list.
But yes, it would be cool if it functioned correctly.

Oh, I didn't know about that...... how about restoring the /jump
command to builders then? It's not nearly as good as fly but it
is still pretty useful in large scale builds. I head some people
say that in the early BC some builders had /jump. I wouldnt say
to give a kit with armor though, it is far too easy to sell and
trade. Maybe just a kit that gives builders certain blocks? like
stairs, slabs, chiseled stone, or something along those lines.
IT would work the same as woods or stones, just give other
blocks. Like /kit soil or something. gives dirt, grass blocks,
and mycelium?
