BeardedCraft - What's Really Going On
DIR By: Nick

---------------------------------------------------------
[center]Real-talk time.
CreeperHost, one of the most underrated server-hosting companies
out there.
BeardedCraft has been hosted by CreeperHost for almost nine
months now(?) and there are no plans to change providers.
Around two months ago, we were affected by a DDOS attack on
CreeperHost's hosting nodes -- One of the nodes we ran under.
This attack not only caused long-term issues for node stability,
but caused the company owner a lot of time and money to patch
all the damage.
Within the past few days, there seemed to have been
another/ongoing... issue, that forced our node to be changed as
an emergency protocol.
As reported earlier today, this led to our different server
address, which also led to a few other severe problems that
conflicted with BC's plug-ins.
With that, today we experienced one of our biggest rollbacks yet
by a whopping almost-seven-hours.
CoreProtect was one of the biggest on-going issues we have had
for quite some time and with today's re-location it needed a new
database created for data storage.
Once the database was created (Huge thanks to Luke H - CH
Staff),
Block data was set back to the prior back-up for CP which
happened to be after this morning's restart; which was
miraculously successful.
The new MYSQL database simply could not convert from the SQLite
therefore over-riding all map changes from that backup.
These crashes are nowhere near as severe as they used to be
(Excluding this) and they should be silenced altogether now with
this new database.
Flipping a table is one way to deal with a rollback (Though
highly discouraged),
However taking it as an opportunity to build/explore your
game-play bigger and better than before is much more safe and
healthy.
All that aside, we are currently up and running, new and
improved and ready to grow even bigger this summer allowing you
a sanctuary for all the free time!
Once again, we apologize for any inconveniences. You all have as
much right to know what's going on as we do.
If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below.
:)

Okay I hope you don't mind me replying here. But are you saying
the world was reset?

Any block changes to the map were rolled back seven hours.
Meaning, if you built or destroyed anything within the past
seven hours it will not be seen on your next log-in.
With this, I feel I should inform that up to this point any
logged block data has been started a-new with the new database.
Most inspected blocks will be shown as No block data found.
unless changed after this date.
Griefers seem to have received a get out of jail free card. ???

Considering I haven't been online due to Testing for nearly 2
weeks, I'm glad to say my builds are safe. Anyways, thanks for
the info nick. Still, upsetting that greifers get a clean slate
>_>

This doesn't effect me so much as potentially effecting others.
Is there any way to replace (other than repeating the work)
difficult to obtain items such as specific enchantments on gear,
etc, that was lost in the rollback? It'd be hard to verify
really, but maybe people will read the answer here and pester
admins less in the server.
Lost a bit of progress on a few builds myself, but nothing
monumental. Just enough to be annoying. Also lost 30 or so
diamond ores.. but they were in my mines and I have a general
idea where to find them again :P

Reimbursements are possible, yes. :) It used to be a thing for
quite a while there back in Nov/Dec when we had worse issues.
However, like you said the verification process did become a
problem and was abused. We would have claims of people losing
stacks of diamonds and such.
Honestly though, the sole problem now is CoreProtect. If we just
removed it, none of these random errors would be here. So
tempting.
But a server without a rollback feature is as good as griefed
regardless of the protections. LogBlock offers the same
situation and worse.
My biggest question to CH though is how a simple node switch
could cause so much trouble with CP.
I am afraid if we cannot squash this once and for all, these
reimbursement requests will become more popular again.

I'm not sure if you're able, but I would suggest possibly
checking logs to see if said player was even online during the
hours lost in the rollback. Perhaps there's a server plugin
available that will let you log all enchantments to items and
who made them within X time period?
Also, I'm sure you've thought of it, but I'd keep a record of
who makes replacement requests and how often (based on the
number of rollbacks).. just as an aid in identifying people
taking advantage.
By the way, I lost a full set of diamond armor, all with protect
or fire protect 4, unbreaking 3 on all of it, two stacks of
diamond blocks, five dragon eggs, and a stack of Rabid's heads.
can I get a Reimbursement? 8)

A joke Rapid.
Also, Nxck.. a problem. I lost my builder rank in the
rollback.. I've got the mil back, but no rank. Can I send you
the money while you're offline, and have you just promote me
next time you're on?

Pay me whenever, although I think I still have that money.
Almost 2AM but I'll hop on here in a second and re-upgrade your
