Something to think about with mute
   DIR By: lumpyjor5808

       ---------------------------------------------------------
The power of social spy has brought to my attention that players
can easily get around said /mute by simply messaging players
they want to talk to. This is a prime example with players such
as panda060699 who messages other players. It is present in
other players as well and it really just kills the point of the
mute punishment. Is there anyway we can remove the /msg and /r
commands when muted? Cause jailing a player and muting them for
simple things that don't require jail is a bit ridiculous.
Anyways, in short. We need to deal with players using private
messaging and mail to get around mutes. ::)

Ignore only works to keep me from hearing a player. What I am
saying is that players are using messaging to get COMPLETELY
around a mute. Thus rendering it a nearly useless punishment.
i.e I muted panda a while ago, she started messaging grondell
and having normal conversations as if she wasn't muted.
Basically killing the reason I gave her it orignally

Again, its generally not abuse or annoyance. It's just the
player is using messaging to get around the mute and talk
normally :I I mean while abuse through messaging with mute does
happen I deal with it. It's just that I can't punish people
(Yet) for using messaging to get around the mute.
Basically this is how it goes down.
       PLAYER1 HAS BEEN MUTED
Player 1: /msg player2 "Hey I got muted, talk to me through
       messaging"
Player 2: /r "Okay man, he wanna go mining? Maybe do some
       parkour?"
Player 1: /r "Okay sounds good!"
And they just use it to be like they weren't muted to begin with
       ::)

mute is mostly to be used to get the public chat a bit more calm
       i guess,
so if a player was raging or cursing etc,
they'll be muted and the majority of the players in public chat
aren't bothered with it anymore at that time,
if they want to continue in /msg that's their choice aslong as
it stays civilized and that the rest is restored to public chat,
incase the cursing/raging continues Towards a certain player in
       /msg,
then a jail time would be handy to get that player to calm down
and to give the 1 beeing raged at some rest aswell,

When that happens I normally jail the person in question. But
this is in reference to people using the /msg command to get
around mute entirely and just talk to their pals.
So unless I'm completely mis-understanding the form of
punishment mute provides, then I think its kinda killing the
point :I. Cause again, players just talk to their buddies like
they weren't muted to begin with, And I just see this makes
       muting pointless XD

well the benefit of the current mute system is that it brings
the peace and quiet back in the public chat,
so other players aren't bothered by that players actions at that
       time,
and as for that they use /msg to continue chatting with their
       buddies like nothing happend,
in that case, if they act up again next time and we'll have to
       mute them again,
then we'll just throw a jail or temp ban at em right ?
if the first warning/mute didn't get through to their heads
we'll have to think of a different punishment for them :p
so yeah it's not a Real punishment, it's to make sure other
people aren't bothered with it in public chat
atleast that's how i see it

That makes sense ID. It's just again players like panda and
murphy continue to talk with messaging and I didn't think that a
jail/mute combo would be alright for their problems
       Panda: simply just raging :I
Murphy: Freaking out after his wolf died
Both started chatting with their buds like they weren't muted at
all XD. But I will start having to dish out that combo if it
       does happen

Wanna know something funny? I can't /msg people if I'm muted
unless they talk to me first. So I don't know how they bypass
       that.
