Ideas on how to get more people on the forum....

:-\ I'm sure the few people who actually use this forum would
agree on this. But the server should really have incentive to
use this forum.. I barely see anyone except a few folks. (Me,
the staff members, and a few other non staff members) And as
such i had some ideas on how we can get people on the forum.
#1 No more instant Trusted
Now I know this one will cause a lot of grovelling if it did
happen. But I think it should be that a person has to make
legitimate, non-spam posts, to be able to qualify to post on the
white-list thread. This will cause people to be active to get
trusted. And it will force people to constantly use the forum.
(Considering most people sign up, then post on white-list, get
trusted, and never post again)
#2 In-game Incentive
Perhaps some sort of award for making lots of posts. Perhaps
like a type of in-game title. Like {ForumPoster} or something,
similar to the completionist prefix. This would show who the
truly active forum posters are. And give people a reason to use
the forum. With this maybe after perhaps 100 posts (or some
other achievement number like 50 or 75)
Again, these are just some ideas. And I really think one of
these, or something of a similar effect should be implemented.
As barely anyone on the server uses this forum. :-\

Awe man, I couldn't agree more!!
I placed a request on Bukkit a week ago hoping for a developer
to code something like your very suggestion! :D
- Rewarding the players for every post; then ever 5 and 10 and
20 even more incentive!
:P But off course there will always be spam; and a slap on the
wrist fixes that!
As for the Trusted White-listing idea, it's so simple I'm
ashamed I didn't think of it, haha!

maybe a post and time requirement for trusted/white-list?
10 posts and 5 hrs or something... Whatever you deem reasonable

You guys are the ones in charge X3, you pick, i think about
maybe 10 to 15 posts be reasonable. Over atleast a 5 hour
period. Or anything that you guys think is good to stop the
"Instant white-listing". As, stated previously, players are
getting to accustomed to signing up, posting on the whitelist,
and never posting again :-/

Most of the questions I have seen people asking in the last few
days, are answered here on the forums. Since people would
rather just ask the same question 30 times, then when I tell
them to come here, they wait and ask David the same crap,
something needs to be done to get them here.
Your total time spent on the forums can be viewed in 'Show
Stats' under your profile info. I feel leaving it online just
make it look good will be an issue, seeing as any loophole will
be found and exploited. I think at least 10-12 posts should be
required before Trusted. While no one wants to see spam posts,
unnecessary 1 word or ;D are also a type of 'spam'.
I believe a Forum is just as important as the game for an online
community. It saddens me that people want to be part of the
community, but need a 'gift' for compensation. People should
want to know what is new and upcoming to the server. I hope
that once the community is more established in game and on the
forum, the handouts won't be necessary to keep people here.
How about you have to make a certain number of posts and be
active at least 2-3 times a week on the forums, or you LOSE your
Trusted rank. Community is a relationship between between a
large group of people. Your duty as a Trusted member of this
community is to be helpful, respectful, and INFORMED.

Your ideas make sense Gazkam. Honestly, I just think that
positive reinforcment works better, but, whatever, the final
desicion is up to the admins and Mike...

I agree about positive reinforcement, but I do not think simply
giving gifts to people for doing something they should be doing
regardless is going to be as effective as were hoping. Like I
said, this is a community, with a well setup forum, it should be
used. All the info is here, there is no good reason to not at
least read up on it and be informed. I feel if we are going to
be using the word 'Trusted' we should give it meaning. I would
Trust someone who is informed to be able to answer new players
questions, and help others who may not fully understand certain
things. Most of the 'Trusted' no nothing about new, upcoming
server changes. Lumpy, you, and I think snowy, were the ONLY
people, INCLUDING VIPs, who knew why my name was gold.

Combination of all the ideas. Here it is....
You have to post a pre-determined amount of times first (10-15
for example) to post on the whitelist thread. Staying active
gives players the trusted rank and not being active can cause in
loss of the trusted rank.
This will cause players to be rewarded with the trusted rank and
doing the whole "Post once on whitelist, never post again"
routine will result in you losing your trusted rank. And you
must post the required number again to regain said rank.
This will FORCE players who want trusted to use the forum, keep
up to date, and stop asking Mods/Admins the same questions every
10 seconds. :-\
