Help with upgrading video/graphic card
By: Pokemon1164 Date: March 7, 2014, 9:15 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
As the title says, I'm looking for help on upgrading my
video/graphic card, but I can't seem to find out on what would
work on my computer. I'm also on a budget of $150-180ish. So
nothing too expensive. :P (not counting the power supply which
max I would pay for that is $70) Oh, and yes I'm finally going
to buy it this time. Also, for the graphics/video card it has to
be something that will pretty much run just about every game
with NO lag. I was thinking maybe the 700 series but, if there
is a really good card in the 600 series I'm fine with that.
Computer Specs
Processor: Intel i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz (btw it's eight cores)
Ram: 16 GB
64 bit
Graphics Card: Nvidia gtx 625 (don't ask how that somehow go my
300 fps LOL)
Power Supply: 350 W (pretty sure I will have to upgrade this as
well)
Manufacturer: Asus
OS: Windows 8.1
Available Expansion Slots: 2 PCI, 1 PCI Express x16
Graphics/Video Cards I'm looking at (Keep in mind I'm on a
budget of around $150-180ish for this)
HTML http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487028<br
/>(damnit out of stock now.)
HTML http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127783<br
/>(not sure why this are going out of stock so quickly, but they
might get more by the time I make my decision anyways. XD)

/>(yes, this is a little of my budget but I can take out $20 out
of the bank, I'd prefer not to, but this just looks like a good
card. lol)
Power Supply (Only if I have to upgrade)

Alright, that's my list on what I think would work... but not
really sure on how good it would work with my PC. (which is why
I made this topic.)

Just FYI the i7-4770 is a 4 core processor, (8 threads) <---
information direct from Intel
Also, when thinking that your game is running at 300fps, think
about this...
after a bit of research I have found that their are no
monitors/tvs currently capable of displaying 300fps
Since the Hz rating of a display is how many times it can
"refresh" the image on the screen in a second, the max rate you
can get right now with the best displays out there is only 240hz
So even if the game displays 300fps on the debug screen, your
graphics card doesn't have to work very hard to downgrade the
frame rate to whatever your display is capable of.
99% of tvs and monitors fall into 3 category of Hz rating, low
end/less expensive at only 60hz, mid grade/mid ranged at 120hz
and high end/more expensive 240hz
As for choosing a new graphics card, if you want to be able to
run any game with no lag, you need to at least double your
budget,
But otherwise, there are many sites out there that offer
side-by-side comparison options for 99% of graphics card, the
idea would be to find a few that fit your computer with the
video outputs you want in your price range, and compare them
that way.

Alright, thanks for the information, Porter. I probably will
just wait until my birthday then to get the graphics card
considering I should have at least $700.

The one I was thinking about getting for £68.98 runs around
250fps on high settings

AMD R7 260X $130-150 depending where you buy. 2GB GDDR5(typical
for graphics cards) but the 2G will let you run dual monitors
(if you care for that.)
Core Clock speed is 1175Mhz which is better than an nvidia
gtx760s core clock speed.
AND! Its a R7 series gaming card from AMD so thats good to know
right?! :DD
