Villanueva's got his OBP up to .300 after his big game, and his
OPS vaults well over .600. 28K/1HR/115AB is not really a great
profile to sustain a nice average or OBP, though. Another case
where he was supposedly a good contact hitter, but his K-rate
last year indicated otherwise, and has just gotten worse this
       year. Hitting movement is hard.

Don't why you are still informing us about Brett Jackson's
results, Chris, since craig pronounced him a bust yesterday.

Of the relatively decent prospect list for hitters who do you
have greater (or less) confidence in after 1 1/2 months this
       year?
For me I have pretty much lost any real confidence in:
       Villanueva
       Candelario
       Amaya
I will also throw Devoss and Easterling in there though I
suspect nobody had much confidence in either.
None of the higher end prospects have surpassed my expectations,
but I am starting to believe that Silva, Bruno and Rademacher
       MAY become interesting.

Let's hope Szcuzr is back on track now. He's 6 for 14 with 2
walks, 4 runs scored and 3 steals and O K's in his last 3 games,
after going 3 for 25 with no runs scored in his prior 7 games.
And what is happening in Iowa? Is there a bar close to the
ballpark the players are spending too much time in, is the
hitting coach there doing far more harm then good, or what?
Take a look at the following position players now in Iowa, with
the Cubs truly counting on at least two of them producing well
enough this year to either contribute in Chicago or to allowing
the Cubs to trade them for something of longer term value:
       Vitters -- .216BA/.662OPS
       Ian Stewart -- .082BA/348OPS
       Bret Jackson -- .232/BA/.717OPS
       Logan Watkins -- .246BA/.811OPS
       Dave Sappelt -- .178BA/.451OPS
Those are some slit-your-wrist bad numbers. The team is next to
last in BA and only one spot better in OPS. The only two guys
the Iowa Cubs have (or have had) anywhere close to the league
leaders are Sweeney (28) and Bogusevic (27), the former a
journeyman major league the Cubs have called up and the later
another 4A OFer. And to compound the problem, the pitching in
       Iowa is not much better.

Candelario is 19. Amay is 20, and Villanueva is still only 21.
A bit early to write of any of them.
DeVoss, however, is struggling badly in A+ at 22
  HTML http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=devoss001eze<br
/>and Easterling is 24 there and is less that impressive. In
       fact
Easterling has not put up impressive numbers at any level since
       leaving Arizona's rookie ball.

That's been hinted at for a while as they've been stretching him
out. It'll be interested to see what he can do against
       professional hitters.

       Wow, very interesting on Maples.
Nice to see Garza having a competitive outing yesterday.
Supposedly was hitting 91-92 on Tennessee gun.
