They are just so devoid of talent. They probably need another 5
years of top 5 picks. But, man: How long until they bottom
out? Distressing to see their future "core" look like very
flawed players.

Honestly, I can't imagine how anyone -- fan, manager, front
office personnel, media member, Ronnie Woo Woo, anyone -- could
have looked at this team and thought it was anything but a total
disaster.
They haven't won a road game since game number three.
They're $hitty!

Well, they have a worse run differential. Then again so do the
Jays and Mariners. Seattle's really bad too. Might be lucky to
get a top-5 pick.

If the league offered to let the Cubs turn in all of their
players and then pick from either teams under expansion draft
rules, would you take the offer?

I'm just at a loss for words with this team. They very easily
could be .500 or better, but they've just choked. Every day,
it's a close game. And every day, they find a way to lose it.
I really can't remember anything like it. They haven't been
blown out yet...just a new way to lose every night.

Well you'd say no because you're not going to get guys like
Starlin Castro, Anthony Rizzo, etc. in an expansion draft.
Then again, I'm feeling about the same way about the future
"core" is looking. I mean I sit and watch Castro, and he's
still making a lot of the same mistakes he was making when he
was fresh from Double-A. Rizzo might be more of a good
complementary Adam LaRoche type player instead of a franchise
power hitter, although it's still early for him. Barney and
Castillo are complementary players. Schierholtz is probably
playing his way into a contract extension after this season, but
he's not really a franchise player either.
We're a long way away right now.

Besides Sam, I'm not sure that there is anyone else in the
"etc.". But you are right, of course.

Yeah true.
Pretty much if you take away Castro, Rizzo, and Samardzija, then
yeah you'd probably have to be thinking long and hard about that
expansion draft. Although really, the rest of the team pretty
much consists of expansion team worthy talent.

A -18 run differential with a 5-13 record. Can't say I expected
them to be a game out in the win column for the number 1 pick 18
games into the season, but the run differential insinuates the
Cubs really should have a better record when comparing theirs to
the run differential the rest of the crappy teams have.
I think a lot of it falls on the coaching. The team looks
poorly coached.
