One of the Bears beat writers is indicating that Emery may have
been taken a bit by surprise by Arians not getting the San Diego
job.
In other words, a domino effect where Emery and Arians both
figured Arians was going to San Diego but when McCoy got the SD
offer then Arians was back in play.
Which also tells me that Chicago may not have been Arians' first
choice. Which could make for some awkwardness. OTOH Arians
apparently showed Emery enough in the first interview that Emery
made room for him on the dance card today even though it was
only supposed to be Bevell and Trestman. And Arians was
interested enough to cancel an interview with the Eagles to meet
with Emery a 2nd time.

It is kind of interesting too see that Emery's due dilligence
and exhaustive interview process has produced 2 finalists that
are similiar (at least in philosophy according to Steve Young)
in Trestman and Bevell.....
Arians being in the mix now is kind of the wild-card......
Very, very interesting times for Beardom......

Another article with some great insights as to Emery's thinking
and priorities:
HTML http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4682027/young-trestman-good-fit-for-bears-cutler#more
It sounds like Emery is going to be putting all the resources in
place for Cutler but he is also going to be raising the bar for
him and he expects the new HC to be a key in that process.
What makes this article worthwhile is, somehow they got one of
the candidates Emery had interviewed to talk about what Emery
told him. Presumably it's not one of the finalists, but this
person said based on what they heard in the interview they
believe Trestman is the best fit.

I want to go back to this age question thing. Isnt Lovie about
right in the same age bracket as Trestman and Arians? I wonder
what the significance there is to that

FWIW the last three articles posted on the ESPN Bears blog today
(and all within the last 2 hours), have all dealt primarily or
exclusively with Trestman.
Don't know if that means info is leaking out about the final
decision but I think it's interesting.

I don't think Emery had (or has) an issue with Lovie's age. For
Emery it is all about energy, leadership and creative thinking
and if he feels Arians has those qualities at 60 years old
that's not going to bother him a lot.
In fact I would argue either of the older two candidates are
probably better suited to take on a team with a lot of veteran
holdovers who are still very loyal to Lovie and will make a
smoother transition to older, wiser father figure as opposed to
a brash "big brother" type.

Strange timing... just came across on PFT.
Either the Seahawks front office is very slow on the uptake or
Bevell has already been informed he's not the guy in Chicago.

Guys, I remember that 95' 9ers juggernaut,er team, and they were
excellent on offense and I had no idea it was Trestman leading
that train. Wow....if he can do that here...to Cut? We've got
the right guy....

And let Toub go. I'd much rather trade a top ranked ST for a top
ranked Offense.....
