Me too! Maybe he was unprepared for the interview he had or did
poorly. Or maybe the Bears are keeping the true list hush hush.

Emery has made it clear that the Bears job includes Cutler as
the starting QB. It could be McCoy didn't want to be handed
another QB like he was with Manning.
In a place like Arizona he could bring in his own QB and start
from scratch. That might be what he's looking for.
Just a theory.

Arians is 60 and Trestman is 56, so not a large difference.
Reading everything this morning, it appears it's Trestman by a
nose over Arians.

Yeah it seems like the Canadian press at least has Trestman as
good as gone.
I think Trestman may have a little more desire for this job than
Arians does.
If Emery picks up on that it probably tips the balance toward
Trestman.
And yeah they're only 2-3 yrs apart in age.

Just a gut thing, but I feel like Bevell would have a hard time
getting buy-in with all those veterans in the Bears locker room.
#1 his age, #2, he has zero head coaching experience. On top of
which Bevell just strikes me as a general doosh, and his last
two bosses (Pete Carroll and Brad Childress) aren't particularly
well respected around the league.
Maybe he did OK in Seattle but that is a much younger team than
the Bears have and I don't see us getting a whole lot younger at
least this offseason yet.
Not so with Trestman and Arians, either of whom I can see really
connecting with both the veterans and the younger guys who need
a COACH, not a BFF. Really hoping it's one of those two.

Well so much for that not-wanting-to-inherit-a-QB theory I had.
Guess he'd rather work with Rivers than Cutler. We'll see how
that turns out. He does have a lot of intel on that division
already so in that respect it makes a lot of sense. San Diego
is clearly the 2nd best HC gig out there, and in some respects
even more attractive than Chicago (weather, strength of
division, better draft position).
This would also explain why Arians was added as a 3rd finalist
for the Bears job when it was initally reported as only Bevell
and Trestman. A lot of people expected him to wind up in SD.

What really intrigues me about Trestman is that opposing DCs
have no book on this guy whatsoever.
Yeah they can go watch game film of Montreal but that's Canadian
rules and it's almost impossible to say how much of his offense
from up there he could (or would) translate to the NFL. We
would have an element of surprise with him that I don't think
we'd have with Arians.
The previous history with Cutler (assuming it's a good history),
also gives Trestman an edge IMO.
These are the interviews where the finalists also talk with Ted
Phillips and George McCaskey (and possibly even Virginia
herself), so I'd say whichever one of them makes the best
impression on the top dogs will get the nod.
IIRC Trestman recently got a contract extension in Montreal so
some sort of buyout would have to be arranged which could up his
price considerably (in addition to possibly having to pay Lovie
for 2013 which is looking increasingly likely). I hope that
doesn't wind up scuttling the deal with the bean counters.

have lost in successive years, and both to division rivals.

Well my theory on Bevel is that if he is such a doosh then he
likely will appear so to Phillips and George. And since you
likely have 3 to choose from to present to ownership then the
choice will boil down to Arians and Trestman and how badly they
want the job.
The thing about Trestman that intrigues me is if he has so much
contacts and "friends" up there he must also have a handle on
the OLine talent available up there and boy do we need talent.
