The biggest problem I would have with losing out on McCoy is
that with his adaptability he seems to be the guy that could
best "Cutler proof" our offense.
I.e. if Cutler goes down with another injury next season or just
isn't "getting it" for whatever reason, our offense can still
function with someone else taking snaps.
With anyone else we're likely to bring in, we are officially
all-in with Cutler. And then the stakes get raised even higher
to not only keep him from getting hurt again, but keep him
mentally engaged and on-board.
If McCoy does go somewhere else, I would have to think it was by
his decision and not ours.

ESPN Bears Blog is reporting that only offensive-oriented
candidates are advancing to Round 2.
In other words:
IN - McCoy, Trestman, Sullivan, Arians, Bevell, Clements,
Carmichael, Dennison (maybe)
OUT - Armstrong, deCamillis, Singletary, Toub, Priefer

It sounds like the 4 finalists may be McCoy, Ariens, Trestman
and Sullivan.
If it's Ariens or Sullivan then I think Bates has a better
chance of staying because those two guys have no history with
Cutler and I think Emery is intent on maintaining continuity
with Cutler in some form.
Trestman tutored Cutler before he was drafted and I suspect that
of those four candidates he has the strongest opinions on how
Cutler needs to be coached-up... which could result in Bates
getting the boot and Trestman bringing in his own guy if he and
Bates don't see eye to eye.
If it's McCoy, it could go either way with Bates and would
likely depend on how well they worked together (or didn't) in
Denver.
At this point, I think Arians winds up in San Diego. If McCoy
isn't sold on Cutler and/or Emery then he probably opts out and
we wind up with either Trestman or Sullivan.

That Arians guy I think would be aces. Look what he did this
year on the fly with a completely revamped everything. Also, it
looks like Rothlesburger (sp?) isn't the same since he left.
I'm the Bears, I sure make a run at him.

Colts are a solid organization. They just reload and keep right
on going. So my choice would most likely be Ariens. But I'd
consider McCoy and maybe, possibly Marc Trestman, Bill Toddman
productions.....I swear everytime I hear that that is what I
think of, that stupid TV thing...from I think the old Price is
Right deal, lol....

With Arians, it could come down to if he's more comfortable with
Emery, or with the personnel guy from Indy who just took the GM
gig in San Diego.
Also don't discount the possibility of Arians choosing to stay
at Indy. He has made it pretty clear he's not hell-bent on
advancing to HC this year so he probably has a pretty particular
set of circumstances that would have to be met, and it's not
like Indy is pushing him out the door. He may find it a lot more
attractive to close out his career with a young and promising
Andrew Luck rather than taking on a veteran reclamation project
like Cutler or Rivers.

Yea, whoever comes in is going to have to be of the mindset of
wanting to mold Cutler into a top QB, take on that challenge.
Cut's got the tools, but he's got a ways to go yet, too. The HC
has to be able to put up with a child mentality at times,
stubbornness and yet a pretty talented QB and get the most out
of him.

I'd have a lot more respect for the Colts if they hadn't
deliberately tanked last season to get the #1 pick. Maybe the
ends justify the means and so far it's worked out for them, but
the way they didn't even try to win games last season left a
really bad taste in my mouth.

I really liked what Rich Gannon said about Cutler last week in
connection with his thoughts on Trestman. Basically that this
coming season is make-or-break for Cutler and if he doesn't take
it to the next level with the Bears in 2013 it's probably never
gonna happen for him anywhere.

The league appears to be headed towards a 'run and gun' type QB
now anyway, so unless Cut can adapt to that, he may have a
limited shelf-life anyway.....
