I think San Diego will wind up with Arians... even if Emery
makes him an offer after they talk on Sunday.
He's lived / coached almost his entire career in cold-weather
blue-collar towns. If I was 60 and 5-10 years away from winding
down my career, sunny San Diego is where I'd want to finish it
       out.
The Chargers have more talent than their record has indicated,
but their recently fired GM did a lot of damage to the roster.
Their OL needs work and Rivers doesn't have much left for shelf
       life IMO.

If Trestman is indeed the HC then who gets selected to be OC?
Thats where the problem really is. Its on that side of the ball.
Maybe Trestman calls the plays like McCarthy, but somebody has
to oversee the offense and somebody has to oversee the line. I
dont believe the HC can do all that. Trestman may be good for
QBs but thats too much to expect the HC to do.

With 20 yrs in the NFL plus his last few in Canada, Trestman has
a LOT of contacts on both sides of the border.
I have a pretty high degree of confidence in him being able to
put together an ace staff. Even if the names aren't ones a lot
of us recognize. I'm sure Emery has been sounding these HC
candidates out on who they have in mind for staff and he's
probably been taking note of names that come up repeatedly and
has been leveraging his interviews to cross-reference those guys
       with other candidates.
That being said, I would be a little nervous if Trestman started
populating our coaching staff with a bunch of CFL guys.
Especially the OL coach. That will be the most important
       position-coach hire by far IMO.

I just hope this isn't the start of some type of Dave
McGinnis-like fiasco. IIRC Mikey McCaskey announced the hire
before McGinnis even accepted. I don't think PE rolls that way.
It could also be JJ pee-ing in the Bears pool for some reason
so that Trestman doesn't come to Bears. Wannstedt was a JJ
protege at Dallas after all! :-\

Would suck to lose Toub but at least prop the Bears for showing
some class in giving him the chance to line up a new gig sooner
       than later.
For everything he's done for the Bears he certainly deserves the
consideration and I'm glad the Bears are dealing with him
       honorably.

Say Toub leaves, who replaces him? Nobody in house that I can
imagine. Armstrong???? Nah he is already ST coach. This is a
       head scratcher.

Mixed reports on CFL's Trestman to Chicago
       January 11, 2013, 9:24 am
       JOHN "MOON" MULLIN
Longtime coach and commentator Jimmy Johnson sent a spasm
through social media on Friday when he tweeted to the effect
that Marc Trestman looks like the new head coach of the Chicago
       Bears:

On @JimmyJohnson: Looks like 2 of my guys getting NFL
jobs..Chud Cleveland and my QB coach at U Trestman to Chicago

“Chud” is Rob Chudzinski, the newly minted head coach of the
Cleveland Browns; “Trestman” was Johnson’s quarterbacks coach at
       the University of Miami.

Trestman may indeed become the next Bears head coach. Piecing
together input from various sources leads to the preliminary
sense that the short list after the first wave of Phil Emery
interviews will include Trestman, Bruce Arians from
Indianapolis, Rick Dennison from Houston and Mike McCoy from
       Denver.
The problem is that for Trestman to be “the guy” at this point
would mean that Emery, after laying out a wide-ranging course
and intent to be thorough, has done a personal 180, become the
anti-methodical, and circumvented his own two-tier process of
following initial interviews with follow-up’s with 2-3 finalists
that would include meets with Chairman George McCaskey and
       President Ted Phillips.

Best guess is that Trestman has been in touch with Johnson and
told him to be fitted for a muzzle. Few things turn off a
prospective employer than hearing or reading that a candidate is
putting out the word that he is the guy.
Emery is interviewing other candidates. You can be assured that
he now will be answering at least one pointed question from
       those candidates.

I think its a hoax. I dont believe JJ. Trestman told the
Montreal paper it wasnt true. So who do you believe now? I doubt
Emery would circumvent his search process. And what would that
do to previous interviewees? I think JJ surely jumped the gun

If Trestman told JJ that the interview went great, JJ might have
assumed that he had the job.
