       Halas Hall must keep Toub.

Because they are being forced to keep Wrecks Ryan AND Mark
Sanchez as part of the deal. They have been rejected out of
hand by several candidates and it's pretty clear the only guy
they're gonna be able to get is either some young guy desperate
for entree into the league, or some old guy on his last
go-around who was never any good to begin with and has nothing
       left to lose (Angelo).

those guys weren't at the level of respect that Ryan and Sanchez
are or we would never have pulled a GM of Emery's caliber.

I think the Jets will be drafting top 5 with or without Angelo.
That team is going off the rails next season. I agree with your
assessment that this might be Angelo's gig because who would
want the job given the conditions. Ryan is a blow hard and his
big mouth reminds you of the guy that always talked about the
fights he was in and came out without a scratch...

PFT says Jimmy Johnson has tweeted that Trestman is getting the
       job.
Consider the source(s) but in any event its pretty bush league
to put that out there when Emery still has 3 guys left to
       interview.
And Norv Turner is going to Cleveland as OC.

Trestman has a pretty good pedigree of helping bad Os get
better, spent a lot of time as a QB coach.

It could be we already know the HC (McCoy) but can't announce
until after the playoffs or something and Trestman is the OC.
       Who knows...

Yeah looking at Trestman's resume I have to think that if Cutler
can't be successful working with him, it's not gonna happen with
       anyone.
It would also be great to have that kind of expertise in QB
development to start bringing up whoever our next QB will be
       after Cutler.
Cutler didn't have a lot to say about Trestman on his radio show
a few days ago and what he did say was pretty lukewarm and
       non-committal. So that's a bit of a concern. It was obvious he'd
be a lot more on board with Dennison. You also have to wonder
if the Bears veterans would give him as much respect as they
would a guy who had been in the NFL the last few years.
I think I read somewhere that the starting QB for Montreal is 40
years old and still putting up mad numbers. Granted CFL defenses
aren't anything like the NFL but that's still pretty impressive.
Clearly Trestman knows how to keep his QBs protected.
One thing is for sure... if Trestman's the guy he is definitely
going to polarize the fan base. Already in comments on the
blogs you can see some Bears fans think he would be a tremendous
hire and others think he'll be a disaster. Not sure that would
be the case with a "safer" guy like McCoy or Arians who I don't
think would make many folks nervous at all.

If Bears have given Toub the option to interview for a lateral
that pretty much means he's had it with the Bears' org and has
determined its a dead end job for him and wants out.
Or...he wants the security of a job now and doesn't want to wait
around for the new HC to decide whether he's a good fit for the
       new regime.

Here's another thing to think about if it's Trestman...
The guy has a whole network of contacts in the CFL. And I'm
sure as part of his job he has done a LOT of scouting up there.
If this guy is the hire, don't be surprised to start seeing some
Canadian talent getting looks at Halas Hall as FAs or possibly
       even draft picks.
Now do I want us to start rebuilding our roster around CFL guys?
Hell no. For the same reason I'd be a little nervous if Trestman
started pulling in a bunch of CFL coaches for his staff. But
it's another talent pool to pull from. Izzy came out of
Manitoba College and I'd say he worked out pretty well. I also
recall we took a flyer on that WR (Fantuz?) from the CFL and
that didn't work out but I'm sure there are some guys north of
       the border who can play.

I can't imagine Trestman taking a demotion from HC to OC...
especially if it would mean reporting to a guy who's never been
a HC before at all, and who is much younger. The reason he went
to Canada in the first place is cause no one in the NFL would
offer him a HC job he felt was suitable.
Not to mention I don't think McCoy and Trestman have any history
together. So yeah while McCoy / Trestman would be a dream team
I don't see it happening unless it's something Emery has been
able to broker the past couple of weeks.
