One theory I've seen floated is that Emery will have landed on 2
or 3 more or less equally qualified finalists by the end of this
weekend and will offer the job to whomever of those is available
to sign on first... with an announcement coming as soon as next
       Monday or Tuesday.
The thought being that if Emery is really dead-set on having a
HC in house by next weekend (which is when All-Star games start
IIRC), he can't sit around waiting for the candidates whose
teams are going deep into the playoffs. So it's possible that a
guy like McCoy or Dennison could literally win himself out of
the job with the Bears, whereas guys like Trestman, Arians and
Sullivan aren't tied down on that point. (And Dennison possibly
having the edge on McCoy if you go with the assumption that the
Texans will lose at NE this weekend while the Broncos win at
       home.)
Not sure how I'd feel if I knew we had lost out on McCoy and/or
Dennison for that reason, but at the same time you have to
respect Emery's thinking behind the timeline and appreciate that
he is injecting a long-lacking sense of urgency into the
organization. If for example, he was only going to accept McCoy
but the Broncos won it all, we wouldn't have our HC on board
till sometime in February and that would really put everyone in
the organization under the gun in terms of hiring/firing staff,
       draft preps. etc.
As Bears fans we're not used to seeing our team go after coaches
from winning teams so this is kind of uncharted territory.

That would be bad if McCoy didnt get a shot because of Denver
       going to the Superbowl

So I guess just to be safe we're all Ravens and Patriots fans
       this weekend, then?

       Wow...

Could Toub be heading out? Can't imagine Hester would be too
       thrilled at that change either.
OTOH maybe new leadership on that unit is exactly the kick in
the rear he needs. Hard to say.

I believe Toub is a great special teams coach. IMHO he would be
hard to replace. I dont like the idea of trying to replace him.

This tells me the Bears want Toub back but they want him happy.
They interviewed him for HC and are now letting him interview
for assistant HC jobs. If the new coach wants him the bears
will probably try and match or better any offer he gets.

Which also means he's officially out of the mix for HC. Not that
he ever was really in it.

Sorry but I tried. Clements wouldn't drink the Coke while I
       was interviewing him. :)
