Let's look at the numbers since good "ol Jay has been a Bear.
In 4 years here he's already thrown 63 INT's! He turns the ball
over way too much especially in big games. Rex had 35 in 6
seasons. Kramer had 45 in 5 seasons.
He's won 34 games in 4 years. That's an average of 8 games a
year. (34-21 won/loss record)
Jay's record against winning team since becoming a Bear is
10-18.
These are mediocre numbers and if the team is to go to the next
level then Jay has to come with it.
And of course you never mentioned what you based that statement
of him being "clearly" the best QB since McMahon. I go by
wins/losses and production on the field. You go by ??????

Actually, I can correct you all on this. The team can deny
permission to interview for promotions, except for the position
of head coach. So if Toub was asked to be the offensive
coordinator we could say no. Green Bay did this to us with
Clements before we hired Martz. If Toub was requested by
another team for the Head Coach job, we have to allow him. The
head coach position is the only one that you are required to
allow a candidate to interview. Same thing happened when we
tried to interview Marinelli for d coordinator when he was a
line coach under Gruden. Gruden said no. We ended up hiring
Babich.

I think Arians or McCoy would either one work out well though I
lean more toward McCoy because of Arian's age.

I think that while Emery recognizes this Bears team needs an
infusion of energy and new thinking from a younger coaching
staff, he also realizes the value of having at least one wiley
older guy in the mix. He's an older guy himself, and there are
some veterans on the team who are going to be key to managing
this transition but who could potentially check-out if a youth
movement were to be too aggressively implemented. Hence his
desire to keep Marinelli on if at all possible. So if you look
at it that way, a young McCoy and an older Marinelli would be a
great balance.
Arians and Marinelli would bring a formidable combination of
experience and expertise on their respective sides of the ball,
but the vibe would definitely be "old school". One thing you
saw with Lovie was that he did well managing seasoned,
self-motivated veterans (Urlacher, Briggs, Tillman, Peppers,
Garza, etc.) but his style didn't seem to translate at all with
younger guys like Webb, Rachal, Kellen Davis and E-Rod who I
think may have really benefited from more direct, aggressive
intervention from their HC. Basically Lovie's approach is that
he trusts each player to be a pro and take care of business on
their own... but not every player on an NFL roster is wired that
way and some of them need a more in-your-face approach or you
wind up with a lot of talent going to waste.
I mentioned that we have a number of veterans to keep on-board
but that being said, this Bears roster is going to be getting
MUCH younger in the next 3-4 years and it's going to be crucial
we have a HC that can be relevant to those guys while still
commanding the respect necessary to get the best out of them.

Regarding Arians, I read this morning where he had to go back
into the hospital for whatever laid him up in Baltimore, and now
it doesn't sound like the Bears will get to talk to him till
this weekend at the soonest.
Gotta feel for the guy... he's in line for the biggest job
opportunity of his life and then this happens. Tough break.
