He led us to a Super Bowl with his strong arm at least.
That's almost like saying Dilfer led the Ravens to their SB.
Yes, Grossman was QB on the 2006 SB losing team, but he had
plenty of help. Not only did he benefit from a stout defense as
Cutler has, but he also had a strong running game with 2 good
running backs (Jones and Benson), 2 decent wide-outs (Muhammed
and Berrian) and a real TE (Desmond Clark) and most importantly
a very solid veteran offensive line: Kreutz, John Tait, Reuben
Brown and Fred Miller. Grossman was only sacked 21 times.
However, Grossman passing completion percentage was a dreadful
54% and he threw 20 picks. He also picked up a measly 2 yards
rushing in 24 attempts. 73.9 QB rating.
Cutler's has never been that low in his career.
Not saying that Cutler is a pro bowler but he's easily the best
Chicago QB we've had in many many years. Hopefully, the Bears
can get him some help...personnel-wise and and coaching so he
can be more productive.

Now if one of our other Defensive coaches want's to interview
for a DC position they don't need permission because it would be
a promotion. So Lovie could tap into one of those position
coaches if he wanted.
Babich (again)? (Boogie beat me to it)
With Lovie gone and if Urlacher is done, there's not much reason
for him to keep sticking around.

Why is that? All of our coaches are under contract and do not
have permission to interview for lateral moves. Marinelli would
have to be interviewing for a HC position if he is not given
permission because he is listed as DC/Assistant HC.
Now if one of our other Defensive coaches want's to interview
for a DC position they don't need permission because it would be
a promotion. So Lovie could tap into one of those position
coaches if he wanted.
I stand corrected. Most likely we could only lose Babich or
Hoke if Lovie gave them the DC job and possibly Toeb if he gave
him the assistant HC title. On offense I guess he could swipe
Bates if he thought he's ready to take on the OC job.

What's really interesting about the Eagles looking at Lovie
Smith is the laundry list of things Eagles fans hated about
Reid.
Bad game manager (challenges, time-outs, etc.)
Stubborn - won't/can't adapt scheme to talent
Terrible at hiring staff
Bad at talent evaluation / development
Lack of in-game adjustments
Bad with media (condescending, not truthful, canned answers,
etc.)
No fire on the sideline - too laid back
One dimensional (only cares about "his" side of the ball and not
the other).
Doesn't that sound a lot like someone we just let go?
If they hire Lovie I'm not sure they're not just hiring the same
guy all over again except with a focus on the opposite side of
the ball and without all the family drama attached.

potential. I don't. If that's how you feel then you're
entitled but I prefer what he's done the past 4 years and he
hasn't done well the last 2. He's regressed with all those
attributes you just said and still has maded bad decisions, bad
passes, and costly INT's in ball games. After 7 years in the
league you would expect him to do better even here in Chicago.
To me that doesn't make him the best we had in nearly 30 years
but if you're basing who's better by the way of potential and
how he looks then I guess you're entitled..

terrible because of their performance on the field. That's what
I'm basing my opinion on Cutler.

have Cutler compared to him? He had the physical tools just
like Cutler!

not Grossman? He led us to a Super Bowl with his strong arm at
least. Cutler did lead us to an NFC championship game but was
injured. Even while he was in the game he was ineffective. I
do hope Cutler gets it straight because we paid a high price to
get him here and you as well as everybody should expect nothing
but the best out of him and not "how strong his arm is" and
potential after 4 years on the team.

everybody has to be held accountable on offense and that goes
for Cutler too.

You guys have let this discussion get WAY off track. The
question wasn't what are Cutlers problems. It was who since
McMahon have the Bears had they you think is better? As many
problems as he has he is still in my opinion better than anyone
we have had and even if I had a magic wand and could change time
there is none I would transport to now to replace him.

Hell for that matter go back to Billy Wade or Sid Luckman. Who
else would you add since what 1940? Luckman, Wade (maybe),
McMahon, Cutler? True Grossman started out a house on fire, but
IIRC threw ints in the second half of the sb while the Bears
were still leading and everything blew up.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Grossman also had a bad tendency to fumble, sometimes without
even being hit.
Small hands or something IIRC.

That was also Dave Krieg's problem. At the time, smallest hands
on a qb in the nfl.

I was rooting for Grossman. He was a darned good QB when he
wasn't mishandling the ball. He made some excellent throws and
did get us into the Big Dance until his mishandling killed us.
Cutler needs to at least equal what Grossman did to be equal
with him IMO. Cut collapses in big games. Grossman got us TO the
big game. He just couldn't hold on to the ball. And I'm thinking
Cut has more, much more Jeff George in him than he does, say,
Elway. I just can't see him as the Leader this team needs to get
where we want to go....

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?
