Curious. Says Toub now is going to get an interview for the HC
       position. A few thoughts.
#1 I really don't like the idea of promoting anyone from within
to the HC position. Anyone with this much history in the Lovie
regime is almost certainly not going to be able/willing to bring
about the total culture change this team badly needs.
#2 Seems odd that Toub is getting this chance now, coming off
the Bears' worst season for STs since he's been here.
#3 I'm thinking this may just be a courtesy interview to smooth
feathers in hopes it will keep him on board as ST coach.

Emery also will apparently be interviewing Mike Singletary as
well as the Vikings ST coach.
I can't even imagine either of those guys seriously being in the
mix for HC so maybe he's trying to gauge their interest for
       staff positions.

Mike Singletary.....c'mon, you gotta wonder. He'd be animated
       for sure.

       Interesting article.
A couple of the writer's suggestions on the defensive side of
the ball are a little wack -- some 3-4 DL from the Jets and
Maualaga from the Bengals at LB (who was a flat-out joke in
their playoff game) -- but the rest of his ideas are pretty
       solid.

Toub's special teams finished 8th in the NFL and that's with
that meaningless blocked FG return for a TD at Arizona. But
that's not why I would not take him.
Although he may be very organized I just don't think that his
background of 15 years as a collegiate strength and conditioning
coach and more recently a special teams coach qualifies him for
the HC position. I know that Harbaugh of Baltimore was a STs
coach but ideally I'd think you'd like a OC or DC and in
Chicago's case we need someone with a strong offensive
       background.

I just don't understand how the Chiefs and Bills let guys like
Brandon Albert and Andy Levitre just walk away.
I was really not that down on Jason Campbell but Matt Moore
       would be an upgrade.
Martellus Bennett was inconsistent as a Cowboy but looks to have
had a solid season with the Giants - and at 26 you could save
yourself a high pick on a TE. But again, do the Giants let him
       walk?

Not sure how they compile those rankings. When I say Toub's STs
slipped I mean specifically in returns. IIRC we had 2 blocked
FG/punts returned for TDs this year -- which is great but our
returners didn't take a single one to the house all year. On
top of which it seemed like they had a lot more penalties than
usual though I know at least a few of those were caused by
Hester dancing around and reversing field instead of hitting the
       seam.

I'm on the fence with Bennett... I know he drove Cowboys fans
crazy and most of them were happy to see him go. The size and
talent are obviously there but I'd like I to know if we're
getting the Cowboys version of him or the Giants version before
we commit big bucks. I think we could do better there.

I've seen some reports of Brian Kelly from ND..
He would be a great coach, just what we are looking for, a coach
to get his team embarrassed on National TV. He would be perfect
       for us :-)
j/k, it is hard to compete with the talent that Saban can
       assemble.

Not to mention, sending flunkies up in towers during a windstorm
to get killed. We definitely need some of that.

I don't know about that. Seems like the last time we hired a ST
coach as HC the guy did pretty well.
