It sure should be a major question if it isnt the first
question. It sure hampered Tice in being able to call a wider
variety of plays. He had to use the TEs and backs to give more
       protection for Cutler.

I like the idea of Levitre from Buffalo but when we're done
paying for him we won't have enough for Long... who is going to
be crazy overpriced anyway for a guy coming off an injury who
hasn't played his best ball in awhile.
More realistic would be to sign Levitre and put him at LG next
to our first round draft pick at LT. Then upgrade the C position
       just for good measure.
Those other names in that article I'm not real keen on.
Especially that Bengals DE. We're fine on our D-Line and he
didn't show me much in their playoff game. If we sign or draft
a DE this year then Emery is going to (rightfully) come under
even more scrutiny than he already is for drafting McClellin.

I think the first thing the guy being interviewed should ask
Emery why our oline sucks so bad last year and what will he do
to give him talent for that problem!!!

Well hopefully the next HC/OC and OL coach will shoot straight
with Emery about the true calilber of O-Linemen currently on our
       roster.
It's ultimately the GM's job more than the coaches to assess
talent, and I think Emery deferred too much to Lovie and Tice's
evaluation of our current OL talent and it bit him in the azz,
hard. I doubt he makes that mistake again.

That's why I tend to give him a pass for now. He came on board
in very late January last year and had limited time to prepare
for the draft. He didn't have any choice but to listen to the
current coaches who knew the players. He has now had time to
evaluate for himself so no slack from here on out.

Very well written article. Good job by the author. I seriously
doubt we sign a bigtime LOT in FA because of Melton and
Urlacher. Some of the cheaper choices might be more realistic
such as the TE and receiver. Also of note the Bears almost
silently sign the kid Golden to a futures contract. He may just
be that slot receiver talked about that we need. Its been
correctly pointed out that we dont go over the middle much in
the passing game. Any improvement there would be beneficial.

That I can see hapening. Thats way more realistic.

The joker in the deck this last season was Gabe Carimi.
Everyone knew he'd be coming back from an injury but no one
expected him to suck out loud for the whole season. I mean he
was just laughably bad. For a 1st round pick to go from a solid
10-year starter (who many had projected for him) down to that
level is something I don't think either the coaches or Emery
planned on, and when it happened we were SOL. Just thank God
Emery was not Angelo and actually took some action to get
Jonathan Scott in here and stop the bleeding at RT. It's really
hard to know which direction the Bears will go with Carimi
though unfortunately our options are somewhat limited since he's
on a big-money contract thanks to being in the last class before
       the new CBA kicked in.
I really hope we don't face the same situation this coming
season with Lance Louis but I think Emery needs to anticipate
       and plan for the worst.

I read somewhere that Lovie Smith actually has a son on the
       Bears' coaching staff.
Is that true? If so that has to be awkward right now.
