We need better players at LT and LG. Period, end of story.
I agree, but Bears could go another year with Webb at LT if we
had to. You often said that Webb hasn't show improvement from
2011 to 2012, but he has. He cut his penalties in half from 13
to 6 and his sacks dropped from 14 to 9. 9 is still too much
and that number needs to be less than 5. If we can find a
quality LT in rounds 1 or 2 I have no problem in replacing Webb.
It just depends on who is available.
LG is the biggest or possibly second biggest need on the team in
my opinion.
Louis (assuming he's healthy) and Scott can get it done on the
right side, at least for one more year.
Scott probably signed a one year deal and after the season he
had, may be off to another team for a starting gig with starting
pay. A lot depends on what the Bears' personnel thinks about
the future of Carimi. But Scott did a helluva job and the Bears
would be lucky to re-sign him.
Center is the X factor. Personally I would like to see us do
better than Garza but if the resources aren't there we may be
stuck with him for another year (which I believe is the last
year of his contract). Two very good C's were on display this
past weekend with Chris Myers and Max Unger and the difference
between guys at that level and Garza is very noticeable.
I don't know about X factor, but I agree Garza can be upgraded
but doesn't have to be.
Of the remaining guys (Ed Williams, Webb, Carimi, Chris Spencer,
James Brown), I see no more than 2 of those guys being on the
roster next year and they will stick as reserves only.
Edwin Williams is gone. James Brown did not play that well but
I give him a break cuz he's young and had never played guard -
not even in preseason. If he can stick the Bears might have a
player that can backup 4 spots on the line. Spencer should not
be starting but can backup 3 spots. Webb improved his play
from bad to average in the 2nd half - you'd like to get an elite
player at that position just like you would like to have an
elite DE on your team or elite QB or HB.
As for Carimi...we don't know what was going on with him. Emery
knows and they may give him another shot or he could soon be
going the way of Chris Williams...

Dustin Lyman too!
Lyman could catch and block and play special teams - I'd have
taken him over Kellen Davis.

So Yapper, would you like to trade down our first for a high
second and high third?

Or keep the #1 and trade the #2 for a #3 and #4...which would
give us:
1, 3, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7
Looks like we have pick #20 in round 1 and it appears that the
pick we gave up for the TB DT was conditional. I still think we
have that 6th or 7th round pick.

No, I mean add a 3rd to what we've got. Don't trade out of the
1st or 2nd cause we need those picks too.
Most likeley we would have to trade a player to get a 3rd round
pick from someone, and he'd have to be a pretty good one.
Before this season we might have gotten that for Hester but now,
no way.

There's always the quantity vs quality decision in trading down.
Bears could probably use 2 offensive lineman, a TE, and a
linebacker. And maybe a CB and a WR for depth. It's rare that
anybody sticks after round 5 so we might want to consider
trading down. There's arguments both ways as it was nice this
year having a #1 and a #2.

Having a #1 and a#2 will show us what Emery can or cant do after
last year.

Most impressive thing that Emery has done has brought quality
depth. It is important and much need to build championship
teams.
I think Hayden and Scott were solid pickups. He needs to hit on
these type players. Less expensive quality football players,
who don't necessarily need to start but have to be capable of
starting.

I hope our scouting team is watching the game tonight. Draft 1
or 3 of the Alabama linemen please, pretty please.
