Dave, growing up in Oak Lawn I'm familiar with a lot of Mom&Pop
pizza parlors within a short drive from our home in the "Blue
Tops" neighborhood, the joint across from Little Company of Mary
Hospital (my mom worked there for 25 years) is "Rosangela's
Pizza" pretty good pizza most times but I can remember getting
some bad pizzas from there and it wasn't the cleanest place from
time to time,too small for dine-in. Barraco's located just East
of Pulaski on 95th street hs been pretty good for a long time. A
great number of the pizza parlor's we went to are gone now to be
replaced by any number of businesses,etc.

This place actually had some good pizza. was there once before
it came to light that the owner was a mob hit man in the witness
protection program...LOL.

There used to be no such thing as "deep dish" pizza back in the
day. Grew up in Chicago-style thin crust where they cut the
pizza in squares, not the pie-shaped pieces most are accustomed
to. Barely any crust around the edges at all. Cheese and
toppings go almost all the way to the edge of the pizza.
My childhood favorite, Roberto's in Elmhurst is still there and
still has, in my opinion, the best thin-crust pizza ever. :)
Started out as a pick-up only place, but changed owners several
years back, started delivering and ultimately opened a nice
eat-in restaurant next door.

cutting the pizza in squares is the way my pizzas are still cut
,extra cheese and sausage if you please ;D

I hate deep dish pizza. I love thin crust, thinner the better.
My wife loves deep dish. I tell her, why don't you let me order
a thin crust pizza and you order lasagna?

I don't hate deep dish pizza, but it's definitely not my first
preference.
Whenever I tell people I'm from the Chicago area, the deep dish
discussion inevitably comes up. If they've never been to
Chicago, they don't know that there's any other kind of pizza
other than deep dish. When you start talking to them about
Chicago-style THIN crust pizza they cock their heads and look
atcha kind funny, like you don't know what you're talking about.

Rosangelas is indeed the name of the place. I ate there a lot
years ago, but then not until my mother spent some time in the
hospital, and we found it was still open. I have not been there
enough to have had a bad pizza there, but perhaps it is just a
matter of time.
Is Barracos a chain? I will have to try it.
I assume you are too young to have ever gone to Casa Maria,
formerly on 95th street just east of Cicero. Run by an elderly
couple, Joe and Maria, it was outstanding.
Gino's East, on 95th a few blocks west of Southwest Highway was
also pretty good, but not as good as the original Gino's. Both
are closed now.

Best pizza my wife and I had in Chicago was in a downstairs bar,
kinda like Cheers, about a block or two south of Second City.
Great pizza, made on site.
