It’s Baseball. Bregman’s offensive woes, for now, happen
occasionally in baseball. No sense being silly about it—no
offense to you personally.
So, Cal Raleigh is slugging .304 and has negative bWAR. Vlad is
slugging .351. Go figure. It happens.
Bregman actually has 2.3 bWAR (1.7 fWAR) so far—thanks to
stellar Matt Chapman-type defense—so is on a pace for a 3+ WAR
season. So, he’s contributing. Hopefully, the offense will pick
up. Yes, we need way more offense from him but there’s a big
picture.

The point was not to complain about Bregman's performance with
the Cubs. It was to playfully highlight Milwaukee's apparent
pixie dust that is vexing us so.

Hancock has a lot of yellow flags. Never been a big K guy, a
never been a good pitcher before this season (negative WAR
player pre-2026), not clear his velocity spike is sustainable.
But he's got four(!) years of control and is undeniably having a
very good season. If a package with Shaw as the centerpiece gets
that done I think you have to do it. Certainly that before
trading Ayers for Detmers or Soriano.

I don't get the fixation on Milwaukee. We should basically just
tip out hats and admire how strong an organization that is and
now talented they are at picking and developing the right
players. The Cubs have also made big strides in those areas and
we have a big edge in resource availability even if we haven't
fully taken advantage. There is no shame in being second in the
NL Central to a team that is outplaying the rest of MLB.

Yea baseball explained by him playing in a home park aweful for
him. He’s currently hitting 212/.325/.315
Wrigley. It’s insane that folks on fan graphs called out how
poor his offensive profile is for Wrigley before the cubs front
office will. Reb will let us know it’s not the case for the one
game he hits 4 hr at at home… since that’s baseball. I’ll put
even money he never ever over a 3 month stretch does better at
wrigley and then on the road for the remainder of his contract.

Method- I previously pointed out the pertinent career facts
when you said the same thing earlier. As Jeff would say, no
offense to you personally, but look at the facts and keep them
in mind….and maybe re-think this.
Wrigley is one of the best parks in MLB for Bregman career-wise.
Go to Baseball Savant (as I noted weeks ago) and look at what
Bregman would have done had he played his entire career at
Wrigley, using Statcast data. Out of 30 ballparks, only five
would be better for him power-wise than Wrigley.
Bregman actually would have MORE homers playing a career at
Wrigley (225) than he actually hit career in the regular season
(219). (Also hit 19 post-season because constantly in
playoffs—would have fewer post-season as a career Cub with fewer
PAs).
Wrigley hurts RH dead pull hitters. Bregman career is a power
alley HR guy. He is not a dead pull hitter. So, Wrigley is good
for him. Sixth best park in MLB for him.
Let’s not do this again in 6 weeks. Look at the facts and keep
them in mind and maybe reassess.

Yeah, I get that but you linked another post from somebody else
that Cubs would be better off if the Brewers would just take
Bregman off our hands. So, I was kind of addressing both.
No getting around his disappointing offense. Maybe it will come
around before too late. I think overall he’s an asset but, like
everybody here, hoping he becomes even more of an asset.
And, no, I don’t want him on the Brewers pixie dust or not.

Would have done?? Who cares. He’s not the player he was earlier

really bad at playing at wrigley. We now have a statistically

like bottom 5% or mlb in offensive production for a player.

Actually, 240 home PAs is quite a small sample size in context
of 5785 career PAs.
That’s why he’s very likely to improve, albeit sometimes a
player just has an off-season. Could happen.
Vlad Guerrero is slugging .298 in his home park this season. Is
that a “statistically significant sample” in context? Of course
not. It’s incorrect to extrapolate too much from that.
The Statcast career data I referenced about Bregman vis a vis
Wrigley is important as to park effects. You claim Wrigley is a
poor park for him but the data says otherwise. A bad idea to be
dismissive of good data. To say “who cares” is a form of
“No-nothingism”—don’t fall into that trap just because you don’t
like what the data tells you.
Bregman is not offensively what he was in his peak 2018-19
seasons when he was a 8 WAR player. He was a 4 WAR guy last
season and that’s probably what he is now and going forward for
awhile and Hoyer and most everybody else figured on that.
I get it. You have your point of view on this and nothing will
move you off that position.
