Agree.
Kinda hard for me to figure, sometimes, though, who's going to
subslot and who isn't.
1. 3rd and 4th rounders both seem like obvious sub-slot
candidates, no question there.
2. Sorrell, as a college junior, I wouldn't traditionally
expect superslot leverage. However, he may have been higher
rated? mlb had him ranked 33, Cubs got him 66. Not impossible
that Cubs called him with a superslot and he told other teams he
wouldn't sign below $2 or $2.5 or something? Never know.
3. 1st and 3rd picks, Cubs picked both Townsend and Bailey
higher than their mlb rankings, so perhaps one or both might be
variably sub-slot? Who knows. However, both are sophomores, so
either could hypothetically have some superslot leverage?
Hard to guess what Kantro has on plan. But certainly the 3rd
and 4th rounders seem highly sub-slot likely. So definitely
some action probable tomorrow.

The 4th rounder might be a little under slot, but I doubt Jasa
is going to be much of a savings

Optimist:
Bailey sounds like a bomber. Huge power, massive exit velocity,
a guy pitchers might fear. Ryan Howard, Kyle Scwharber, Pete
Alonso, somebody like that. You can afford high K's if you get
lots of HR's, and lots of fear-based walks besides.
Townsend: Spin-master with a strong fastball. Why not
good-version Corbin Burnes, or a healthy version of Hunter
Greene-lite? Lots of different pitches to mix and sequence.
Sorrell: Lots more power. The prospect of having a team
stacked with power, it's fun to imagine. PCA,
Hartshorn/Conrad/Sorrell bombing inf LF/RF, Bailey bombing at
1B, fun to dream.

I was actually just going to to post this Townsend and Jaso have
velocity, but the characterics of their 4 seam aren't great.
They are more high velocity breaking ball guys. Which fits more
in the Cabrera mold.

Thanks. So, Jasa is pretty favorably scouted? I don't track it
much. The mlb pipeline thing had him ranked as #173, which
would be 5th/6th-roundish, and turning 22 this summer he's
obviously not a young guy who's smart to go back.
I trust the scouting guys, Cubs and the mlb teams know way
better than pipeline, whose rankings are often variably
outdated.
Heh heh, I am always conflicted with "sub-slot" talk. I like
having some sub-slot deals, because it can enable today to
access some exciting pickups.
But the flip reasoning is that if Jasa is getting sub-slotted a
hunk, that maybe speaks to his market value and perceived future
potential. If other teams love him, and were calling, "if you
get to us, we'll go $800, don't agree to sub-slot for less....",
that speaks more favorably to his market value than if nobody is
calling him at all, or if so promising more than $300K or
whatever....

Good point, that's what I read too, and Cabrera immediately came
to mind as well. (On the pessimist side.).

Law had him in his top 100. Just looking at the velocity and
ability to spin breaking balls, I don't think it is going to be
a large savings. He has relief risk as well, because of his
control. You also have to take into account NLI money at
college. Any guy that is starting at a power 4 school is
probably getting decent money, this isn't a few years ago when
college guys were getting like 1/10 of a scholarhip.
There is also a possibiliy that somebody could fix there
fastball issues, change the grip or release point. Add a
sinker. It is going to be more likely on a college guy than
somebody that has been in the majors for multiple years
