If the offense can become more consistent and the defense can
actually show up, then we wouldn't need the late game heroics to
win games.

I see mocks showing the Bears taking the Oregon safety or the
Toledo safety @ 25. I like that.

Teams have been aware of this case for a long, long time, and
there was a lawsuit associated with the case that was settled in
Miami.

Its the season for information of players to leak out in hopes
their draft status drops. Its also the lying season as far as
the draft goes......

I don't know. SS is the ONLY position on the Bears team right
now that does not have an experienced starter penciled in. This
isn't usually the case with Poles lineup going into a draft.
I just don't think SS is an impact position and a player can be
found in R2 or later. Now if either player above is head and
shoulders above any of the other positions then go for it. But
I wouldn't be drafting a SS in R1 just because the Bears don't
have a legit starter right now.

Hoge and Jahns seem to think if a LT falls that they like that
will be the pick at 25.

I have begun my annual tradition of spending way too much time
studying the NFL draft. I have used AI to analyze where the
draft strengths and weaknesses are for each round in terms of
position. I have studied many of the mock drafts from different
people to understand where they think players may or may not be
taken. As we all know, you never know how the draft will turn
out; however, I will say I think the Bears' best chance of
having a very good draft hinges on one of the top safeties
falling to us at 25. If that does not happen, I think the Bears'
draft becomes much more difficult in terms of value aligning
with positions of need.
A couple of things to keep in mind on this draft is that they
are saying that defensive tackles are not worthy of being taken
at 25. However, the problem with that position is it's not deep
in this draft. Really, the Bears need to be picking somewhere in
the 40s or 50s to get a quality tackle that is around its draft
value. A trade back has been talked about; however, we all know
that takes two to tango, and sometimes that's just not possible
to trade back.
The more I evaluate the roster and the more that I think about
what the Bears' needs are, I personally would say defensive
tackle is above that of DE, mostly because I believe that Booker
is about to emerge into a solid plus player. One of the second
round picks needs to be DT and we either need to move up or
trade back IMO. I do think there's some quality centers to be
had at the end of the third round which also fits a need.
I believe there's enough linebacker depth in this draft that we
could address that potentially in the fourth round, but I could
also see a real value pick in the second, having one of the top
linebackers fall to us. As much as I would love for us to get a
left tackle, I think we can get by this year with Braxton Jones
at all. I think the Bears have got enough there to get by,
especially if they could add to the interior of the line with a
young center.
I would guess that we will take a late-day wide receiver with
good speed that can serve also as a punt/kick returner to give
us some juice on special teams. I also would not be terribly
surprised if we took a running back late second or third round.
I could see us even trading into the third round for one and
then trading Swift for a day three pick. I really like Mike
Washington out of Arkansas at running back. I think the guy's
going to end up being a stud.
Blocking tight ends are a plenty, and that'll end up being a
seventh-round pick or even just a street free agent this year. I
think that's one position where you could really get somebody
with quality just as a walk-in after the draft.
I keep hearing the Bears want a cornerback, and I believe where
there's smoke, there's fire. The problem is you add cornerback
to every other position, and there are a lot of needs. Unless
there's real value sitting in front of them at that position, I
think that's one that they just can't make work.
Every time I do a mock draft, the problem I have is defensive
tackle. I really think the Bears should consider trading for
Dexter Lawrence if it doesn't break the bank. I think we could
easily give up a first-round pick this year and get better value
by getting him into the fold and picking our other needs later
in the draft.
With all that being said, here's my Bears draft;
Trade pick 25 Dexter Lawrence DT Giants
Pick 57 AJ Haulcy S LSU
Pick 62 Caleb Tiernan LT Northwestern
Pick 89 Mike Washington Jr. RB Arkansas
Pick 129 Tacario Davis CB Washington
Pick 147 Jager Burton C Kentucky ***Traded D.
Swift to Commanders for pick 147***
Pick 239 Cole Payton QB North Dakota St
Pick 241 Vicent Anthony Jr. DE Duke
Assuming T. Bagent gets traded this summer for a 2027 2nd round
pick, that is why drafted developmental QB late.
Again I would pick up a blocking TE as undrafted FA after draft.
I think the first four picks are starters (inc 1st round
trade). Davis and Burton backups in 2026 and probably starters
in 2027.

If we were to trade Bagent, I’d make sure Austin Reed was on his
way back to Chicago before the deal was done.

Too bad he could not be temporarily released to UFL to start as
QB there- more experience, exposure (a little more cash). I
think he would tear that league up considering he seems to be a
serviceable backup in the NFL.....
