If Dalman lost his edge, love of the game, or has an unknown
health issue, he at least did us a favor making the Bears brass
aware of this weeks prior. We weren't caught with our pants
down in training camp. Having a dad who played in the NFL,
probably assisted in that regard.

That's what I'm thinking, has to more to it than "I just don't
want to play anymore"...

Hoge and Jahns said his timing was actually really team
friendly. He could have done it after free agency started, or
after the draft, or just before training camp, or before the
start of the season.

He did it a week before free agents can be signed. He likely
discussed it with management even sooner before the
announcement. Team has time to consider his replacement.

He may have told them after the super bowl for all we know, it
just wasn't the right time to announce it. The NFL really
doesn't like any other NFL news around the SB other then about
the SB. As Dave mentioned, it could have been way worse, he
could have shown up to the first week of training camp and
decided his heart wasnt in it and quit then.
