Kinda fun to have kinda completed a ready-to-go roster, but to
still have both time and available budget to be adding further.
Andujar, Gallen, Hoyer still has $$ to be adding further.
Doesn't have to, but can kinda be looking for any value pickups
he can find. If he likes a deal with Gallen, he's got cash
left. If he likes a deal with Andujar, budget isn't stopping
him. Same for some other hypothetical outfielder to replace
Alcantara.
[/quote]
RR now has Cubs at $243.5. Adding Gallen and Andujar probably
would put Cubs around $270.
I hope that Hoyer still has $$ to get to that level and would be
right about at a spending level we discussed here couple of
weeks ago. I am skeptical about that but hope so.

Yeah, $270, that seems beyond plausible, I'm not imagining both.
Beats me, I don't know market. Andujar maybe in the $4-8 kind
of range? That alone seems feasible? It's being rumored, so
maybe there is truth to the rumor? Not suggesting they are
likely to actually sign either player, but it's fun to be able
to still have the $$ flexibility to look for something you think
is a good value? They're expecting to finish over lux 1 anyway,
so what's the difference? They underspent budget by a bunch of
money last year, which should roll over. They made a bunch of
revenue hosting 5 home playoff games. And I think they have
some plausible expectations to be back in playoffs this year.
So *IF* Andujar wants to sign at a price they think is good
value, why not?
Gallen, that's a further stretch. Adding a $20 piece, that's
pretty substantial. Obviously not both guys. But again, I like
hearing rumor from Levine, suggesting that it's not beyond $$
stretch. He seemed pretty confident in his rumor source. And
he also had seemed pretty confident a month or two back when
they were in the $205 area that they still had capacity to spend
more than $50 or even $60. Gallen jumping them into the $260's,
that would be something.
Again, I totally don't expect that to happen. But I like that
Hoyer still has some capacity to browse, even if he ends up not
buying.

I’d rather give that money to Valdez, even with opt outs if he
preferred…

Valdez is presumably going to get a lot more money than Gallen.

If we’re talking 20 for Gallen, what are we talking for Valdez?
30?
Offer him 3/84…30/28/26, with opt outs after each year. The
window is now.
I’d take Valdez/Long over Gallen/Andujar.

wow. that's *quite* the endorsement from PCA, who seemed to gain
a lot of value from veteran player relationships last year.

Sadly, that is a good point. That may well be not legit. But
here is a quote from PCA that is source-based:
"We talked for 20 or 30 minutes the first day he came to the
facility," Crow-Armstrong said after sharing his belief that
their personalities will mix well. "He sat at my locker just
talking about our plan for me this year, and I thought that was
the coolest thing ever. He’s already instilled some confidence
in me that I need to hear some
Sadly, that is a good reminder. In any case, here are some
other source-based quotes:
"We talked for 20 or 30 minutes the first day he came to the
facility," Crow-Armstrong said after sharing his belief that
their personalities will mix well. "He sat at my locker just
talking about our plan for me this year, and I thought that was
the coolest thing ever. He’s already instilled some confidence
in me that I need to hear sometimes.
"I'm just glad I've got another person in my corner, because
it's always been that here, but I think he's just a nut when it
comes to the hitting side of baseball, and I love that, so it's
gonna be great."
