With pitchers and catchers about to report, Baseball Prospectus
thinks we will win the division by ten games:

I can't imagine the Brewers falling so easily, but I'll take it!

Pecota has only Dodgers, Mariners, Braves with more wins than
Cubs.

They’ve got only 4 teams with over 89 wins

The Brewers getting counted out in February and winning the
division in a walk is an annual tradition. Harrison will win the
Cy Young and/or some scrub they claim off the waiver wire or
promote from the minors will post a .900 OPS. You know the
drill.

No way. We got their manager. With his brains alone...

“I asked Craig Counsell if Daniel Palencia would get the ninth
inning if the reg season was starting now. Instead of the usual
‘we have outs-getter’ answer, he simply said ‘Yes.'”

"No new or surprising injuries to note!!! WOO HOO!!! THAT’S the
biggest win of the day."
"Carter says the expectation is that the group that emerges to
open the season is probably reflected in the group that’s going
to be in camp – i.e., not necessarily expecting more big moves –
but he also hedges with the standard note that talks continue,
you never know, etc., etc."
"Cubs are internally very excited about the reclamation arms
they brought in this offseason, even if they couldn’t say today
who is going to break out, what their role might be, etc.
There’s confidence that talent will emerge again."

I’m assuming Carroll’s injury means more WBC playing time for
PCA…

On paper, one would have to say that Hoyer has done a heck of a
job in assembling this year's roster:

No one EVER has to say that Hoyer has done a good job. That
would ruin the narritive.
