From McDaniel's writeup: "Best value: Josiah Hartshorn (sixth
round, mocked to the Cubs on Friday). He was getting
second-round reviews as a long-time standout hitter in the class
with a good approach. He is limited to a corner but grew into
easy plus raw power this spring."

Keith Law: "High school outfielder Josiah Hartshorn (6) has
some bat speed and superb contact rates, with an impossible 4
percent whiff rate on fastballs in tracked events in 2024-25,
along with 55 to 60 raw power right now. He’s not a great
athlete and is going to end up in an outfield corner."
I think I love the concept of a big strong bat-speed guy with
superb contract rates, to go with easy raw power.

Conrad’s bonus would be slot between overall picks #25/26.

They REALLY like Hartshorn! Fun.

So do I. I think he may be the best player that they drafted,
over the long run.

A quote from Hartshorn.
"“I fly out to Arizona in the next day or two to get a physical
and once I pass my physical, I will look into signing and then I
will report in a week or two to Arizona,” he said."
Earlier he said that he had turned down several offers in the
high ones (presumably the high one millions) but he held out on
his number until the Cubs finally agreed with it and drafted
him. His agent called him to say that the Cubs had agreed to
his "number".

The Cubs are $3.6+ under. With the slot bonuses added to the
pool of money they have, it appears they have $4,773,180 left to
spend plus $150k for each of the players in Rounds 11-20. They
could give Wing, Hartshorn and Barnett (predicted to go to
college) roughly $1.6M (middle of the 2nd round money) per
player which should be attractive to each of them. It looks like
they will sign Wing and Hartshorn with Barnett going to Bama.

I have to believe they discussed a number with Barnett before
the pick…otherwise, why bother?
I also have to believe that the Cubs a) found the number
reasonable, and b) thought it was do-able…otherwise, why bother?

I think Barnett is just backup in case Hartshorn fails his
physical.
Hartshorn ≥$2, Wing ≥$1.2, variable underslots for
many of the others but not necessarily all. Jerzembeck might
get some overslot too, but not huge I wouldn't think.
