Cubs draft eight college pitchers in rounds 11-20.

19th rounder Barnett would be an incredible get if there was any
way possible to pull it off…

It seems likely 14th rounder Kaemyn Franklin is the younger
brother of Cubs former 6th rounder Kohl Franklin from my
internet perusing. Seems like that'd be really cool for him to
pitch in the minors with his brother.
Same high school, and the 2018 article on Kohl getting drafted
       mentions brother Kaemyn.

If this draft is similar to previous ones, the Cubs have already
reached agreement (at least a firm understanding of the price
required) with everyone of the first 12 or so, and one or two
long shots that they may or may not reach agreements with.

It is. Kohl has tweeted a bunch of links to him over the years.

       Pipeline pre-draft comment:
There's chatter that a team or two may be willing to spend
heavily to lure him away from his Alabama commitment.

I read that Kaemyn Franklin had Tommy John a few months ago.
Probably why he's signable? Get pro team to cover everything
       with high-level medical expertise?

cant imagine brantley is going to sign. If so, why wait till
19th round? and why be flashing Roll Tide tweets before draft
       is done?
       b
But if not, the top-10 rounds are really surprising. Five of
last 6 picks were senior-signs, pretty much. (Book isn't
literally a senior, I guess, but he turned 23 next month, so
effectively so.). You'd think that could be saving significant
money. But Greg Zumach supposedly has some inside sources
suggesting that Conrad is going underslot by a significant
chunk. I'd expect Kepley and Reid might also be variably
subslot. So, if you've got ~$500 in overslot, and then 8 of
first 10 guys might perhaps be variably underslot, perhaps by a
lot, what's it all getting saved for?
Four hypothetical ideas come to my mind:
       1. They might love Wing, and plan to shoot him well beyond the
$1M type superslot that guys like Mule, Paciola, and Southisene
have gotten? Maybe he's going WAY past $1M?
       2. Same for Hartshorn? Maybe $1M won't even be close to what
       they give him?
       3. Maybe Barnett is NOT actually beyond reach?
       4. Jerzembeck is already 22, so you'd not think a 22-year-old
wuld have great leverage. But, maybe he's going superslot
anyway, to some degree? Guy was going to be Friday-night
starter for a power SEC team. If you think he might get that
back, you might have a guy well worth some superslot?
       5. Maybe this idea that senior-signs will sub-slot is phony?
And Cubs are getting them because they like them and are
       slotting several/all of them?
I'm guessing it's mostly 1 or 2, and maybe 4? That one of Wing
or Hartshorn, maybe both, might shoot well beyond $1M? Might be
guys Kantro really liked, and sees as having really high upside?
And maybe we've always liked Jerzembeck, and think he's got
potential to be very good, so worth a few hundred K in overslot?

Of course there’s the other possibility that we need the extra
budget space at the trade deadline. Hopefully it’s not that.
       🤞
