Ben Badler of BA on Conrad:
Getting Conrad in the back half of the first round is one of my
favorite value picks of the first round. The Cubs have hit on
their recent first-round college hitters, and I think Conrad is
going to be next in line. A shoulder injury ended Conrad’s
season early, but on talent, he fits higher. There’s
physicality, athleticism, a good lefthanded swing, hittability
and power, as well as above-average speed, enough to at least
consider center field, though a corner seems more likely. The
injury is a legitimate question mark, but I’m a big fan of the
combination of the hitting ability and overall upside here,
especially if it does come in under slot.

Last year, Cubs took four infielders in first four rounds. This
year, zero infielders in first 10 rounds.
Last year, no OFers until 7th round. This year, four OFers in
       first six rounds.
This is probably not based on any strategy aside from Best
Player Available Value but still curious.

Conrad and Kepley were at North Carolina colleges, probably
within the scouting area of Billy Swoope. I respect his acumen
a lot. Would love to see him get a couple of high picks that
       excel for the Cubs.

Last two drafts, Cubs have gone considerably over slot in 11th
round: $650,000 for Eli Lovich and $400,000 for Zyhir Hope.
Will be interesting to see if have the means to go for HS
       overslot in round 11 again.

In the Kantrovich interview posted by Craig, he referred to both
Conrad and Kepley as CFers—actually describing Kepler as a
       Plus/Plus CF defender.
Hard to think of a better example of drafting for value rather
than near-future positional major league need. Both these guys
are advanced college guys, so not a matter of a 5-year
       development arc either.
       So, that’s a good thing.
Also kind of makes me think that pretty likely that Alcantara is
going to be traded at the deadline.

Cubs 11th rounder is college P who has missed two consecutive
       seasons with injuries.
       Eli Jerzembeck
       RHP
       Age At Draft: 22.1
       BA:
Jerzembeck ranked as a top-250 prospect in the 2022 class out of
high school, but made it to campus at South Carolina where he
posted a 2.84 ERA over 31.2 innings with solid swing-and-miss
stuff and control. The next two years have been difficult for
him. Jerzembeck missed the 2024 season with Tommy John surgery,
then missed the entire 2025 season with a stress fracture in his
right elbow. After not pitching for two seasons, Jerzembeck
entered the transfer portal at the end of the 2025 season. When
healthy the 6-foot-2, 185-pound righthander has shown an
above-average fastball/breaking ball combination to go with good
control. He throws a fastball in the low 90s and has touched 96
and pairs it with a low-80s high-spin breaking ball up to the
3,000 rpm range with huge shape and movement. The
fastball/breaking ball combo is his bread-and-butter, but he
also worked in a mid-to-upper-80s changeup. Jerzembeck is a huge
draft question mark given his health and the fact that he hasn’t
       pitched in two years.
