If Workman was here on a waiver claim or trade, with options,
instead of as a Rule 5 guy, he would be on his way to Iowa.
Little question about that.
Same as Cowles.
Actually, Cowles has almost same spring training OPS (1183 in 26
PAs) as Workman (1203 in 30 PAs) and nobody has noticed Cowles.
Last roster spot would be between Brujan and Lopez and nobody
would even be talking about Workman, except that Cubs have a
decision to make about Workman. That’s why so much attention.

Exactly. If the Cubs had the ability to option Workman to the
minors, there would be little discussion, since THIS season
would be the only one that had to be taken into consideration.
However, the Cubs do NOT have the ability to option Workman to
the minors, so future seasons become much more important factors
to be considered.

He looks to have ability.
He's a much better option than Miles Mastrobuoni was.

But Spring Training don't count for some players.

You've gotta roll with Workman at least at the start, just to
see if you can keep him on the roster without it killing you.
Has power, speed, defense, and a lefty bat. Worst-case scenario
can back up at 3B, SS, 2B, and maybe corner OF. Too much upside
there to give him away without at least seeing whether his bat
plays at this level, unlikely as that is.

I've seen a lot of Cubs Rule 5 picks over the years. None can
compare to Tater. The risk-reward equation is absolutely in his
favor. Keep him. The cost? Vidal F. Bruján. C'mon, Bro.

Dugout tried to give Tucker the silent treatment after his HR
but PCA couldn't contain himself and spoiled it.
