reb, your concerns with Workman's pre-2024 performance were
obvious prior to Rule 5 selection. It's partly why he was an
unexpected selection in the first place. Perhaps whatever logic
motivated his initial selection remains un-weakened by his camp?

-Or, perhaps his strong camp has greatly weakened the initial
logic? Perhaps they assumed they could keep him at AAA for
peanuts? He'd easily clear waivers, and either Detroit wouldn't
even reclaim him or else they could trade for him for D-prospect
or trivial pool money? But perhaps an unexpected strong camp is
       now changing that assumption?
I think you guys discussed this earlier, but I forgot. To trade
for Workman, you can't just trade for him now, since Detroit
doesn't have him to trade, correct? He'd have to first get cut,
and the rest of mlb would need to pass on him before Detroit
could then have the choice between keeping him or settling on a
       trade?

Correct. "Pass on him" subject to the Rule 5 conditions.

Unless Workman does poorly in the next few weeks, I think he is
near a lock for the 26 man roster. He is an outstanding
defensive third baseman with left handed power, something that
is more than a little desirable. He can play a good second base
and an acceptable shortstop in a pinch, and seems to have enough
speed to play corner outfield. That is pretty much what you
want as a utility infielder. And all they have to do is keep
him on the bench. Can he possibly do worse than Wisdom did the
past few years? At the present time, he certainly offers more
team value than Brujan, Lopez, or any other utility infielder,
and they have to have at least one.

At some point do you worry at least a little about Tucker?

For those who didn’t watch, Horton pitched the 9th and got the
       save.
Other than one fastball that Colt Emerson obliterated, he looked
       great.

I hope that's how the front office is thinking about him, not
       sure I share your confidence.
Brujan and Lopez both offer better gloves at short, and more
       proven production at higher levels.
Take a guy with Workman's swing-and-miss, jump him from AA to
the bigs, and then hide him on the bench... not going to be
       great for his development.
Would love to keep him around, but that will be difficult, IMO.

[/quote]I'm thinking Detroit may want him back considering that
their 3B situation is unsettled and they failed to get Bregman.

       Not worried about Tucker.
I'd probably be more in favor of keeping Workman. It is a low
chance of success, but Brujan and Lopez just aren't very good.
You can probably stash at least 1 Iowa and Nico can play SS if
it is needed. Give me the 1% chance at finding something
       interesting vs Mastroboni 2.0.

They’d probably let us keep him if we took Baez back as well…
