Nico is so good when he simply hits the ball where it’s pitched…

Nice to see us get our first win out of the way! 10-6 is the
final.

Dansby turned an unbelievable double play off a wonky throw by
Busch.

Yeah, defense really swung things. Should be a lot of games
where Cubs defense is going to help.

Bad first game for Pearson. Yes, his fastball is fast, 98-99
last night I think. But hitters seem to have little problem
whacking his 98-99. Put first three guys on via walk or
hit-batter, then three straight deep rockets to the warning
track. Maybe he'll settle in, hopefully, and somehow his
whackable fastball will become functional for him. He was
victim of two bad ball/strike calls.
Can't remember for sure, but following inning I think Thielbar
gave up 3 more rockets to the walls or warning track.
A lot of hard contact off those guys. Their six outs maybe >2000
feet combined?
Hopefully both guys will settle in. Obviously Arizona has a
tremendous hitting team, so perhaps some of those same types of
pitches will look more effective againt some less potent teams.

Nine pitchers pitched for both teams and the only guy who
pitched well was Jalen Beeks who DBacks just picked up.
Poor command and/or loud contact from everybody else.
Maybe opening day jitters.

Pearson has always been a whole is much less than the sum of the
parts guy, and peripherals suggest his topline numbers after we
picked him up were extremely lucky. Absolutely a good guy to try
and catch lightning with if you can figure out why he's not
good, but very much a "prove it" sort of player.

deeg, kinda agree, kinda not. I suspect the perception of
ceiling/upside/lightning is based on the 99 velocity. Which
seems good, even though his fastball isn't actually good.
