Well, you most definitely cannot blame them, father and son, for
not wanting to come to Chicago. The dad was correct: Chicago is
where QBs go to die. I would probably tell my son the exact same
thing if he were in this situation. But maybe it'll turn out.
The odds aren't great for sure nor the history, but ....just
maybe....

I think the line is set at 8.5 wins. Either Kevin OcConnell is
the next great head coach, or some of that fairy dust ends up on
the Bears this season. I think Green Bay takes a step back.
Bears finish in 2nd with a 10-7 record.

Shocking he did as well as he did last year:
The ESPN.com item regarding quarterback Caleb Williams generated
the biggest headlines regarding his interest in avoiding the
Bears. There’s another headline lurking in one of the later
paragraphs of the article regarding his experience with the
Bears in 2024.
Here’s the relevant paragraph from the story, derived from Seth
Wickersham’s upcoming book, American Kings: A Biography of the
Quarterback: “At times, Williams said he would watch film alone,
with no instruction or guidance from the coaches. ‘No one tells
me what to watch,’ Caleb Williams told his dad. ‘I just turn it
on.’”
That’s a damning claim. It underscores the dysfunction the Bears
have endured for years — and it raises questions about whether
new coach Ben Johnson will be able to truly change things in
Chicago.
Obviously, Johnson has proven his chops as an offensive
mastermind. Williams will be in far better hands than he was a
year ago. If nothing else, he’ll know how to watch film.
Still, the Bears have been too blah for too long to just assume
everything wil be changed overnight. The same group that hired
Johnson thought it would be prudent a year earlier to keep Matt
Eberflus and to make Shane Waldron the offensive coordinator
(and not, say, Kliff Kingsbury, who did a pretty good job with
Jayden Daniels in D.C.).
We’re giving the Bears the benefit of the doubt. We’ll assume
the Chico’s Bail Bonds days are over. But that one small piece
of Thursday’s ESPN article serves as a reminder that
dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things — and that the
dysfunction in Chicago has run far deeper than the pizza pans.

I’m not taking the whole Caleb was neglected by Shane Waldron at
face value. Waldron was an assistant under Sean Mcvey for
several years then Pete Carroll’s OC. So he’s not a complete
idiot. Obviously there were problems with the offense. With
Caleb saying he watched film alone we don’t know the reason for
that and whoever uncovered it didn’t ask the obvious follow up
questions. We also don’t have the coaches explanation. Either
way it’s over.
The ESPN story is probably true. But on the score the writer
Seth Wickersham said Caleb’s father spread the gasoline and
Caleb wouldn’t let them throw the match. I don’t think Caleb’s
father did anything wrong exploring the options. What would
Caleb’s future be if they kept Eberflus and Waldron?

I noticed several times after a bad play with Williams, no one
was over there with him coaching him nor did he have a tablet to
look at. He simply sat there. That alone is damning....

What this story did for me was solidify my belief that Ryan
Poles has no business being the GM of the Chicago Bears. Poles
is damn lucky to still have a job because he has the backing of
a president who was able to twist George's arm and open his
wallet wide enough to snatch the biggest fish in this past
coaching cycle.
Now that Caleb has potentially his own "Kevin O' Connell," OL
upgrades, and additional weapons across the board, it's up to
him to produce and win now. Unfortunately the schedule on paper
lowers my expectation a bit and caps the win total at 9.

Schedules can be evaluated after the season is over.
Don't really care who is on the schedule other than I want
Minnesota and Detroit in Chicago in December/January.
I did see that the bye came early this year. I guess it can
help players coming off preseason injuries.

About the only thing I believe about last season is the coaching
staff was a clusterfuck..

I understand that this makes a good soundbite, but have we ever
had a quarterback that went on to great success elsewhere?
I think the Bears have done a poor job of evaluating amateur QB
talent.

I see what you're saying but could it have been because the
Bears just totally ruined the QB?? Ehh looking at the list of
QBs this team has had is a pretty pathetic list....Cutler stands
out and hopefully Williams will as well....
