Not defendng the coach but it wasn't his fault that Davis flaked
out, that Shelton had no lead in his pants and that Jenkins
still had another injury filled season. Even the available
Braxton Jones went down.
We're all giddy with the starting 5 right now, but Bears need to
add a couple more draftees to go along with the returning Bates
and Kramer.

Jarrett with 50? Besides taking Singletary's number that's not
a DT number.
I hate when they expanded the numbering system so that DBs have
single digits and d-lineman have 50s.
I remember seeing #51 running around after Butkus retired.
Wasn't that Jim Morrisey. What was he thinking?

Bears have re-signed Travis Homer and have signed Devin
Duvernay.

Duvernay was a stud WR at Texas - thought he would have a better
NFL career. BUT he's your punt and kick returner and takes the
place of Deandre Carter, who had a really nice season as a punt
and kick returner last season.
Bears still have an opening for 1 more WR...maybe in the draft.

I've thought about the honor of retiring numbers. I think we
have the most retired numbers in the league, while a blessing,
limits us. Who remembers the players with retired numbers from
70 years ago?
Bronco Nagurski - 3
George McAfee - 5
George Halas - 7 *
Sid Luckman - 42
Bill Hewitt - 58
Bulldog Turner 66
Red Grange - 77
Yes, I have heard of many of those names, but never saw them
play. They undoubtedly contributed much to the Bears. They
have been recognized, and it is time to return those numbers
back to available. There are other numbers I didn't include, as
those players played in the 60's or later, though in time their
time will also come. You could make the case that you keep
Halas number retired, as the founder of the league, which is why
I put an asterisk next to his name.

Coach B.J. must have seen something in them.

The Bears will begin their offseason program next week. What
will Ben Johnson be looking to change/alter with Caleb Williams'
skillset?
Johnson: "There are some things that we're going to encourage
that he looks to do a little bit differently. He's been
predominantly a shotgun quarterback for most of his high school
and college career, and so he's very comfortable there. We're
going to work to see the comfort level under center and how much
of that applies. We had a lot of success while I was last, that
going under center for the run game did translate and play
action..."

@AdamHoge
Ben Johnson said Dennis Allen would like Austin Booker to add
some weight to help him set the edge. Get to at least 250. He
was listed at 245 last season. They're excited about his skill
set. #Bears

Ben Johnson is close with Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and he
spoke to Taylor recently about balancing his HC and playcalling
duties. Taylor emphasized empowering and trusting his
coordinators.
"As a head coach you get drawn in certain directions, but as a
coordinator they can really set the table to where you can catch
up quickly. A lot of playcallers as head coaches get lost in the
fog a little bit and (Taylor) has been able to navigate that in
a very positive way."
For those worried about there being too many cooks in the
kitchen, Ben Johnson addressed the line of communication to
Caleb Williams:
"We're going to limit the number of people that are directly
communicating to Caleb. I'm going to be a part of that food
chain and so is Declan (Doyle) and so is J.T. Barrett. The
extent of which we're still working out, but we'll start on that
process next week."

Johnson seems excited to work with Cole Kmet and get the most
out of him. Said he spoke to Kmet about improved run blocking.
Also said the Bears could move him all around, including outside
the numbers to find mismatches and to get him the ball.

Ben Johnson plans to have 3-5 season-long captains, voted on by
players. So not 8.
Ben Johnson on Eric Bieniemy: “He’s going to coach the piss out
of those running backs.”
Ben Johnson said Jaquan Brisker has been cleared. Missed all but
5 games last year with a concussion.
