Poles is spending freely.
My bad it wasnt FA to avoid, it was realistic FAs:
Brendan Sugrue: EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo
A few edge rushers have been floated out as possible options for
the Bears, including Sweat and Khalil Mack, who could be open to
a reunion. Then there’s Indianapolis Colts edge rusher Dayo
Odeyingbo, who is coming off a relatively disappointing season.
Knowing the Bears, Odeyingbo will be the target they land, which
isn’t a disaster, but it’s not as impactful as Sweat or Mack.
Odeyingbo is only 25 years old and is coming off his first
season as a full-time starter,m though he totaled just three
sacks and seven tackles for loss. He did force two fumbles,
though, and hasn’t hit his peak. It could be an investment into
the future, but there’s risk involved.

Clearly Allen sees Dayo's upside comparable to possibly Cam
Jordan. Jordan started off with 1 sack and then 8 sacks his
second year. Dayo's got good size. Slow start his rookie year
but got 5 sacks his second year and 8 sacks his third year as a
rotational player before dropping off at 3 sacks with 14 starts.
DL coach Jeremy Garrett and old sage Sr. Asst. Bill Johnson
who's been a DL coach since the Reagan administration should be
better equipped to tap into that upside than previous Bears DL
coaches in the past. Yes, I'm trying talk myself into thinking
Dayo will work out.
From ESPN.com
One of the more versatile young edge players in the NFL,
Odeyingbo entered free agency expected to have a strong market
for his ability to play the run and rush the passer. He led the
Indianapolis Colts in pressures (33) and quarterback hits (17)
in 2024, despite seeing his sack total fall from eight in 2023
to three last season. Odeyingbo, 25, played a career-high 719
snaps in 2024, more than any member of the team's defensive
line. That fact spoke to his ability to play in various
situations (short and long yardage, run or pass).
At 6-foot-6 and 286 pounds, Odeyingbo creates favorable physical
matchups with his length. He can play the edge but also can move
to interior spots as a rusher on passing downs.
Odeyingbo has been durable as well. He entered the league coming
off an Achilles tear sustained before his draft selection, with
the injury limiting him to 10 games as a rookie. Since then,
Odeyingbo has been in all 51 of the Colts' games in 2022-24,
with his playing time increasing each season. He has 16.5 sacks
in four seasons.

If he lasts through the FA 2nd wave I'd like to see if they can
sign Fowler to an Ngakoue type deal in a situational role. He's
dying to give the Commies some payback and who knows that could
come in handy down the line.
Also Za'Darius Smith has played with every team in the NFC North
except one. Why not offer him similar terms?

Bears need to pickup one of these veteran WRs. Darius Slayton
was making $6M last season with the Giants. He's 28:
2024 39/573 14.7 2 TDs
Maybe DeMarcus Robinson, KJ Osborn, Nelson Aghlor, DJ Chark,
JuJU Schuster, Noah Brown....many vets out there that could be
Bears #3 or 4.

Adam Rank says Odayangbo is a Dennis Allen signing because he
wants bigger ends who set the edge. I think it’s the least
impressive of the signings but we’ll see.

What about Cooper Kupp, once he's released?

The end times are upon us ! Common sense returning all around.
Bears actually got a bona fide center ! No more journeymen being
"plugged in" with a hope and a prayer. Maybe no musical chairs
(cue the clown music) this year on offensive line :D
