Rosenthal just tweeted that preliminary trade talks include both
Paredes and Suzuki.

That could be a very interesting baseball trade.

Sharma and Mooney put out a story saying the Cubs are unlikely
to move Suzuki in a trade for Tucker, but his name has come up
in the trade talks. Cam Smith was mentioned as well.

I might be the only one, but I feel like now would be a great
time to sell high on Caissie in a Tucker trade. He's never been
more valuable, but he's also still striking out almost 30% of
the time in the minors. I'm worried that he could be one of
those guys who comes up, strikes out 40 times in his first 80
PA, and then quickly gets branded as a AAAA/up-and-down guy.

Paredes, Cassie, + some other prospects works for me.

For good or ill, it looks like the cubs are gonna cash in some
of their top prospects.

Damn I'd hate to give up the farm for Tucker without an
extension.

I really like the idea of including Paredes in a deal for
Tucker. Fantastic fit for HOU (he'll play a lot like Bergman in
that park) and helps clear our IF logjam in a way that isn't
destructive of value on the Cubs side.

I have to think, if this does end up being the foundation of the
trade, that more value comes back to the Cubs. I like the
construction of it, depending on what comes back along with
Tucker, as both Paredes and Suzuki have pretty significant
surplus value and extended control vs Tucker.

Sharma and Mooney made it sound like either Paredes or Suzuki
plus prospects, not Paredes and Suzuki for Tucker. They also
mentioned the chances of the Cubs trading Suzuki are low.

Was this in a podcast or something? I didn't see anything like
this in The Athletic. Might there be a link?

It popped up on phone and I wasn’t wearing my readers. It is
actually Rosenthal and Rom, I just say who names in small print
and assumed it was Mooney and Sharma.
“DALLAS — Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki and corner
infielder Isaac Paredes are two players the Houston Astros are
targeting in a possible trade for right fielder Kyle Tucker,
sources briefed on the discussions told The Athletic on
Wednesday.
Talks are fluid, and the teams have exchanged a variety of
names. Any Cubs package for Tucker, 27, likely would include
prospects as well. Third baseman Cam Smith, Chicago’s
first-round pick in 2024, is another player in whom the Astros
are interested.
Suzuki might be out of reach for the Astros. A league source
said that the Cubs are highly unlikely to move him, and they
seemingly prefer to deal first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger
in a separate trade. But the Astros’ interest in Suzuki and
Paredes signals the team wants to remain competitive even if it
trades Tucker and loses free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman,
with whom they are negotiating.”
