No thanks on trading Cam Smith. I'd like to get more than a few
months worth of minor league data and performance before sending
him outside the org, feels like we'd be selling low vs someone
like Caissie who has a well-established track record by now.

Cubs made a selection in the Rule 5 draft today.

Looks like a Wisdom replacement, and the reports on his
athleticism for his size are pretty encouraging: FG rates his
       defense 60 at SS, 70 at 3B.
If he's anything of a late-bloomer and is able to make just a
little more contact, could be a really good backup IF. Certainly
nice to see someone with some ceiling there vs the Nick
       Madrigals of the world.

Perhaps has a chance to be the utility IFer and lefty bat off
the bench. Alternative to that profile is Mastrobuoni, so
possible if Cubs like what they see in spring training. Seems
like a longshot for that role but some folks in Cubs system must
       have liked him.

If Cubs manage to pull off a trade for Tucker, it is imperative
that Cubs make an internal commitment to seriously compete for
Tucker with Yankees and other clubs when Tucker reaches free
       agency.
Tucker is probably going to be at least in the $400 M range in
free agency, perhaps more. At least seems like Steve Cohen might
sit this one out. That makes it different than Juan Soto because
not getting in the middle of a Mets vs. Yankees knife fight.

...“DALLAS — Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki and corner
infielder Isaac Paredes are two players the Houston Astros are
targeting in a possible trade for right fielder Kyle Tucker,
sources briefed on the discussions told The Athletic on
       Wednesday.
...A league source said that the Cubs are highly unlikely to
move him, and they seemingly prefer to deal first
baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger in a separate trade.
       ...[/quote]
Lets just sell the farm for Tucker, keep Bellinger, and go
       3-deep in right fielders!

Is there a proposed Tucker trade?
Or do you just mean you're generally against acquiring him?

I don't like the thought of giving up a ton of talent for
       possibly 1 year of Tucker.
