Not a downer day. Just being realistic. He is a rookie. He is
going to be awesome down the road but don't expect the light to
go on immediately. That is unrealistic.
Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Arron Rodgers couldn't play lights
out right out of the box their first game as a rookie. It takes
time to gain the knowledge.

I feel like the hype train is getting a bit nuts right now. It
is not fair to him because he will never be able to live up to
that expectation.
He is going to have issues at first. He will get better as the
season goes along and will be better his second year. I am just
asking people to not get their expectations out of whack.

They said during the game that there's a crazy buzz in the City
over the Bears. My guess is it's with those who haven't been
Bears fans for the past thirty years and had to endure what we
have. Every season at the beginning there's some level of buzz
and then the first few games and that's done. Hope that's not
the case this season...

What an interesting day. If I were a conspiracy theory nut
(instead of a Bear football nut) it felt as if they wanted to
make things hard on Caleb to see how he responded. But in
reality I think this is part of the norm for this season.
The thing that does disconcert me a little is that while Caleb
can play within the structure of the offense (he proved that
last week) the only way they really seem to click is when the
play breaks down and he says "fuck it" and falls back upon his
special skill set (and it IS special). Not sure if this is just
preseason and the vanilla play calling (probably) but they
seemed to set things up last week and played off of those
things- this week it was more of a throw shit at the wall and
see what sticks. Makes we really wonder what we see in the
regular season- play wise.
I think the Rome non-TD catch is going to be the metaphor for
the season- almost... but not quite there with much promise for
the future....
The defense looks good. They seem to be tackling better than I
can remember in previous seasons, especially in comparison with
the other teams I have watched in pre-season so far. Can't say
its just the one extra game because its been in all 3 games so
far. There are some backup players who will not make the roster
but be starting for other teams. More talent than I can recall
in quite a while on this team....
It was kind of surreal watching Pit/Bills game yesterday.
Trubisky vs Fields. Trubiski is what we always thought he was-
good enough to not be good enough. And Fields the same fools
gold he was here. He still can't do the zone-read well (that 4th
down were he kept the ball instead of handing it to the RB who
would have probably scored is symptomatic). He pre-determined to
do the hero ball thing. But if he can turn the edge he can burn
you badly. Rus(t)ell Wilson got another injury (concussion) so
maybe the Bears will get that 4th next year.....
And I think the underrated thing is that the coaching staff
adjusted in game it seems (I think Poles in the booth said
something to that effect). After the Bears 1st FG, in the past
that would have been the last drive for Williams. Instead, they
kept him and most of the 1st offense in (I think DJ and Allen
were on the bench) and we get to see that beautiful pass to
Odunze down the sideline. Williams looks like someone who makes
those around him play better- a force multiplier. Heady days
indeed in Chicago indeed......

First off, I hope we can get our run game going. Secondly, I see
us having a decent season, fine line between making the playoffs
and not making the playoffs. When was the last time we all felt
positive about this team? Of course, whenever it was, our hopes
were dashed rather quickly. Tough division, we have to play well
against our yearly foes... Go Bears!

Don't forget they had a joint practice with the Bengals on
Thursday for whatever that is worth.

I saw some indecisiveness from Williams Saturday and he was
hanging on to the ball a few times. For the most part I
thought the O-line was solid. Both tackles seemed to get put in
awkward positions more often than I'd like. Jenkins had the
best day of the bunch and suprisingly I thought the much
maligned Davis held his own. The center play was adequate -
I'd like to see what Bates can do, but it looks like #65 has won
the job.
The problem on offense was the receivers were not gettiing any
space. The Bengals DBs were playing tight and held the offense
to one FG on the first 3 drives and it took a Fields like
Houdini act to get into the end zone.
Thankful that Odunze finally caught a ball - he's fast but he is
not a burner. Maybe a bigger DJ Moore.
Defensively, I liked the backup DBs, Blackwell and Stroman and
Mr Simone Biles. I'm still so-so on Hicks. And #45 and #57 are
solid backers - where's Sewell? Injured I figure.
The backup DE play is impressing but they will have to beat NFL
starters to duplicate their success. I'm thinking Robinson
makes the team and it looks like Hardy does also. I think the
trade or signing of an experienced DE diminishes with each day.

Duck
Watching both Caleb and Fields playing you can see why Fields
is on the Steelers.
Damn shame we couldn't keep him around for new types of plays.
BTW
Buffalo - Pittsburgh ... first time two former CHICAGO BEARS
first round quarterbacks played against each other in Trubisky
and Fields ?

I think you are being too negative. We have been playing
vanilla offense and still winning. Yes, they dont count in the
end standings. I just think there is more positives in these
games. Lets see what they come up with against KC.
Another thing that concerns me. These games are showing me that
roster cuts are going to be a bitch. A lot of good talent is
going to be jettisoned.
