He’ll get most of the decisions right but I still don’t get why
you’d yank Merryweather after one hitter.

….Neris averaged 93.6 with his fastballs tonight. The much lower
velocities in spring training noted by AZ Phil and others now
appear to have been irrelevant. A guy just getting ready for the
season during meaningless games, apparently.
….Fantastic baserunning by Busch to score. Love to see a guy
playing smart and all-out. Busch reached base three times
tonight (but should have played better Hoerner’s bounced relay
throw).
….Wonder if Tauchman unavailable tonight? Odd that he didn’t
pindh hit for Gomes in the 10th (Cooper did) against a righty
when even a pulled grounder moves inherited runner to 3B.
….And, surprising that Madrigal starts over Tauchman against a
righty. When Madrigal and Morel both start, will Morel routinely
DH with Madrigal at 3B? Thought might happen against lefty SP
but surprised happened against righty SP too.

Justin Steele was has a left hamstring strain and will get an
MRI tomorrow.
Counsell said Steele will likely go on the injured list.
Counsell didn’t want to speculate on whether Steele will only
need a minimum IL stint.

Give Brown a shot in the rotation. Good chance to see how his
stuff plays, and it's not like Smyly or Wesneski are attractive
options.

Well could last night have gone any worse?
The reason my expectations were so low in the first place was
because of our pitching staff and now we lose our ace.

Interesting lineup choices tonight. Morel at third, and Busch
starts against the first lefty starter of the season.
Hendricks was awful all spring and looks awful today. Maybe
just a slow start but the margin of error with the rotation is
basically nil at this point.
