[quote author=hibernationsuxs link=topic=633.msg488064#msg488064
date=1709387859]Listened to CHGO podcast with Jim Miller as
guest yesterday. Jim brought up some good points of keep Fields
and still draft QB #1. Let the rookie sit and learn, all the
while letting Fields have one more shot. If Fields succeeds you
franchise tag him and trade him for a bigger haul than you are
being offered now.[/quote]
Jim Miller is an idiot. No offense to him personally.
We cannot do what he suggests. We'd be better off putting a
loaded revolver in our collective mouth and pulling the trigger.
Split locker room. Two different offensive schemes. Two A-type
personalities, one of whom you've offended.
Even if Justin "breaks out", his trade value goes down because
you've burned his last "cheap" year.
This needs to be our new catchphrase - "Draft Caleb, trade
Justin. Don't overthink it."
If you want to "ease" Caleb in, sign Drew Lock and have him work
in the "Caleb" scheme. Give Caleb a few series until midseason
when he takes over completely.

It would have been so easy in any other year to have the #1
pick and take Marvin Harrison VI and that's that.
Buuuut NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !! !!
We had to get the pick when the media is salivating over the QB
crop like has not been seen in ages.
The curse at Halas Hall continues. ;D :D ;)
Doncha just love it ?
We're in the catbird seat for once. :o
Gotta hand it to Poles ... he's one lucky motherfuucker.
Can he keep the lucky streak alive ?

Bears may have a hard time getting a trade for Fields with
Cousins, Mayfield and be Russ Wilson free agents.
I was hoping for a high second to draft a center but that may
not work out.

Bears may have to adjust expectations and accept a conditional
pick in 2025. You'd like to get into R2 and get another
potential starter. Right now it looks like CW and at 9 either
one of the top WRs or one of the top DEs. Though that could all
change as Odunze value has increased after the combine.
Bears may be able to trade down #9 and get another pick in R2.
For example, the JAX pick at 17 or Bengals at 18 gets you their
2nd round pick around 48/49.
I know we all want a 2nd rounder but the flip side is that the
#9 player could be a real stud. Our best pick last year for
Wright was at #10.

I would love that second for a top center but now is there
chance to get that blue chip prospect at 9 that’s a big play
difference maker .
Hard to pass on the top 3 pass rushers and top 3 receivers,
whoever’s available.

Per Instagram, we have traded a 5th rounder to Buffalo for OL
Ryan Bates.

And yes, he’s a center…Poles tried to sign him back in 2022, but
the Bills matched our offer and kept him.

He was listed as the backup center in 2023. But I don't know
how many snaps he actually had at center with the Bills.
Regardless, the Bears needed a backup guard with the Whitehair
release and the availability issues the Bears had at guard.
Bears now have only two #1s, a #3, and two #4s...for now.
