Are we really counting on a 5th round RDE to produce his
rookie season?
I hear yah ... I had high hopes for an eighth rounder named
DENT but he never panned out. :-\

It depends on the definition of "produce". 30-35% of the
defensive snaps, two sacks, a few pressures - plenty.

Any interest in bringing back Ngakoue on a 1 year deal?
He’s only 29, he knows the system…his ankle should be 100% (if
not now, by game 1)…

Yes on Ngakoue.
With Sweat, year 2 Pickens and Dexter, I think he could be more
productive.

So with the first day of OTA’s I’ll post the first way too early
observation.
Adam Hoge reported he was at camp and things were “different “
in a good way.
Williams was spot on passing when in the past OTA’s are rather
“choppy “
His arm accuracy and strength really stood out.

It sounds except for a few drops and a couple of shanked punts,
it looked like it should- something that has not been the case
for the Bears......

I want to share some observations from Day 2 of Bears rookie
minicamp.
I'll start off by saying that it was difficult to actually watch
the practice, especially since the team held all of the 7-on-7s
on the field furthest from the media.
With that said, I still was able to get some notes down in my
phone. I'll just put them down chronologically.
- Kiran Amegadjie didn't participate in practice, but he was
engaged in the offensive linemen drills and mirroring some reps
off to the side.
- Rome Odunze was present even though he wasn't practicing. He
did make some catches while jogging. There were also times when
Odunze was catching passes from a stationary position.
- Caleb Williams worked on his play action rollout with
quarterbacks coach Kerry Joseph. For the drill, Joseph would
direct Williams where to throw while he was in the middle of his
rollout. Williams misfired on one of the attempts. Joseph went
over and talked to Williams and coached him on the mistake. On
the next rep, Williams put the ball right where it needed to be.
Here are some of the limited notes I took during 7-on-7s.
- Wiliams completed a pass to (checks notes) running back TD
Ayo-Durojaiye for a touchdown.
- Then Williams connected with wide receiver John Jackson for a
score.
- Williams completed a pass to wide receiver Freddie Swain for a
touchdown in the back left corner of the end zone.
- Williams had an overthrow in the back middle portion of the
end zone. Williams tried to target the same area of the end zone
again, but the pass went out of bounds.
- Williams hit Swain for a touchdown towards the front right
pylon. Williams went over to Swain and congratulated him with a
fist bump after the play.
- Williams was nearly intercepted in the middle portion of the
end zone

That sounds about right for the rookie who probably needed
another year of college to fill out. But we'll take him.
Bears need more from production from the RDE position. I'm not
expecting too much from Booker and certainly not too much more
from DeMarcus Walker. Who's left? Jacob Martin, Dominique
Robinson, Khalid Khareem.
I would be OK with signing Ngakoue. But aside from his sack
totals dropping, so did his QB hits. 23 in 2021. 16 in 2022.
He had 7 last year. And now he's 29.
A lot of folks talk that everything will be fine on defense with
a full year of Montez Sweat, but the Bears defense also improved
when they got back their starting secondary in the 2nd half.
Pass rushing DE is one of the most difficult spots to fill on a
roster - maybe next year with 3 picks in the first 2 rounds.
