Olney says any talk of the Braves being a mystery team on Ohtani
is poppyock.
Atlanta Braves Holdings, Inc. is MLB’s only publicly traded
company. It is now, as of 2023, separately traded from their
parent company.
Dave O’Brien at The Athletic has a piece up on how Braves
signing Ohtani could have a huge impact on Braves Holdings stock
in a way that’s different than the kind of ancillary profits
other organizations could reap from an Ohtani signing.
O’Brien notes that Ohtani-to-Braves makes little or no baseball
sense——aside from the above but Braves parent company might
think otherwise and they blow everyone out of the water
moneywise.
In any case, seems like Ohtani will go where Ohtani wants to go
and not so much on how the signing club can monetize his
presence. So, Braves seem like a longshot.
Maybe Ohtani wants to be the biggest thing in the history of
Canada and signs with Jays, except that such a thing doesn’t
seem to fit his low-key style.
Giants play in a pitchers park and maybe not a place for a guy
coming off a season with a 180 wRC+ and wants to keep doing
that.
Seems like Cubs only chance is if Ohtani thinks that the Cubs
and Wrigley are such a unique experience and is also one that
fits his comfort level and Hoyer can convince him that Ohtani
can do everything his own way off the field—fine with the Cubs.
That would be a shocker. Hard to compete with sunny southern
Cal.

I think they should sell Ohtani and Yamamoto and Imanaga that we
want Chicago to become home to the Japanese national team.

Yamamoto might actual respond well to a team pursuing him BEFORE
Ohtani. Good for the old ego.
I think Yamamoto would be foolish to sign before Ohtani, since
there are very rich teams who will be very desperate if they
miss out on the latter. You know what else is good for the ego,
an extra 30 or 40 million simoleons.

Heyman:
The Cubs are looking at Matt Chapman and their own Cody
Bellinger, but waiting on Ohtani first. The Cubs also have
interest in Rhys Hoskins since Pete Alonso probably isn’t going
anywhere.

It’s Bowden so pound of salt, but he says he’s hearing Yamamoto
will get close to $300 million.

Ohtani apparently met with the Jays at their spring complex in
Florida. On the one hand, maybe he's not pissed it leaked, but
you wouldn't think he'd bother doing that if he wasn't giving
them serious consideration.

Finestein is the first reporter to have it down to the Dodgers,
Angels and Blue Jays for Ohtani. He still lists the Cubs as in
on Yamamoto. No one else is reporting it is down to 3.
The Mariners appearently had their RSN move to a more expensive
tier and they are expecting a cut in the amount of money they
are paid. Their moves have trimmed $20 million from the 2024
roster and $13 million from 2025. The Cubs checked in on
Kelenic and apparently didn't see a roster fit with Happ and
Suzuki or didn't want to take on the extra salary. They would
be interested in one of the Mariners starters if they are put on
the market.

Is it fair to say Hoskins to the Cubs has both enough smoke to
it and makes too much sense for both sides for it not to work
out at some point?
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports the Cubs and free agent
first baseman Rhys Hoskins remain in contact on a potential
deal.
Morosi adds that the two sides have discussed several potential
contract scenarios, including a potential multi-year contract.
No word on exactly how close the two sides are to a finalized
agreement. Hoskins missed the entire 2023 campaign after
suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during spring training.
He’s expected to be ready to go for spring training, wherever he
winds up.

The Cubs and Reds are among teams in talks with the Rays about
Tyler Glasnow.
A Glasnow trade could happen soon after Ohtani's decision.
Rogers thinks the Cubs are not getting Ohtani from info he got
yesterday.
