That surprises me. Bellinger has declined his option. That
does not surprise me.

That makes life easier for the Cubs if they actually use his
money to get say a 25 year old stud from Japan.

I am surprised, but I think it is a break for the Cubs. As
mentiioned above, this may open the door for a high bid on
Yamamoto. At the very least, they should go after the best
pitcher available. Given time, the farm system should take care
of the offensive, but other than Horton, the minor league
pitchers do not seem to have a top tier prospect.

Pipeline already has Jackson Ferris as the #9 LHP prospect in
baseball.

Well, that certainly makes the decision on the Professor a lot
easier.
Yes, with this the Cubs should absolutely be all-in on Yamamoto
(last night's 138-pitch outing notwithstanding). 25 year-olds
with TORP stuff don't hit the market very often. But Shouta
Imanaga is more their speed.

Not sure how smart the author is, he's probably no smarter than
any of you guys. But he's got Stroman at #21, right behind
35-year-old Whit Merrifield, and directly in front of Candelario
(22), Jack Flaherty (23), Hunter Renfroe (24) and Bader (25).
On that list, the ten pitchers ranked ahead of him are Yamamoto,
Snell, Nola, Hader, Gray, Montgomery, Eduardo Rodriguez,
Imanaga, Giolito, and Yariel Rodriguez.
Stroman is older than all those other guys except for Sonny
Gray.
Will be curious what Hoyer does with rotation. Just go
multi-year with Stroman extension?

Some good news that I had not seen reported. Kantrovitz will be
staying with the Cubs.
"While Breslow is running baseball operations for the Red Sox,
the Cubs wont be down a second prominent executive, as vice
president of scouting Dan Kantrovitz has chosen to remain with
the organization after being wooed by the Mets for a high-level
job in their front office. The chance of Kantrovitz leaving was
high enough that the Cubs had at least started to contemplate
potential replacements, but ultimately their amateur scouting
department will continue to be overseen by Kantrovitz."
