I am not certain, but I seem to remember that an undrafted
player can not be signed for more than 150,000 dollars. I am
sure the answer is somewhere in ArizonaPhil's site, but I can't
find it right now.

There is no bonus value assigned to draft slots after the 10th
round, but if a club pays a signing bonus in excess of $150,000
to a player selected in the 11th round or later or to a player
eligible for selection who was not drafted, the amount of that
bonus in excess of $150,000 is deducted from the club’s SBP.

Undrafted free agents at least used to be able to be signed for
more than $150,000, with the difference coming out of the pool.

Thanks. So the Cubs should be able to give up to 450,000 to an
undrafted prospect. More, if the 5% wasn't taken into account.

I like your creative thinking, reb. Your idea is unlikely, but
something unlikely seems necessary. Kantro has $300 in spare
overage (counting Wiggins 5%). One of the following unlikely
things must be true.
1. Leave it unspent.
2. Use it on Wiggins.
3. Use it on non-drafted "overslot"
Leaving it largely unspent seems prohibitively unlikely. I
assume it's going to Wiggins, which seemed improbable on draft
night. But maybe superslotting somebody undrafted really is a
creative angle? Answer on Wiggins will come quickly.

Rules question. Draft-and-follow has scope limited to drafted
JC.
But are there any special cases where guys can get signed next
spring without going through the 2024 draft? For example, a
college senior who wasn't drafted in 2023? Or a pop-up JC
player who wasn't drafted in 2023? Just wondering if there's
anything productive Kantro could do with his $300 in the
hypothetical case that he doesn't spent it all this summer.
I assume the July 25 signing deadline applies only to drafted
guys? reb, in your hypothetical Duce Robinson case, something
like that could presumably still get signed after July 25?

Drafted and undrafted college seniors with no college
eligibility remaining can still be signed until one week before
the 2024 draft.
Regarding undrafted HS guys, like Duce Robinson—that’s a good
question. Have not seen a definitive answer to that. Deadline
date typically refers to “drafted” players. But, I wonder why
undrafted HS players wouldn’t be subject to same deadline as a
drafted player. Don’t see the logic of a later date. Seniors
with no eligibility left seem different—have no place to play.

Yeah, Wiggins bonus will answer question of what’s still on the
table for anybody else, if anything.
That he has yet to sign formally is probably some evidence that
he may be overslot.
Or, there could be any number of personal logistical reasons for
the delay, such as working out rehab plans or whatever. Seems
like a rehab guy who might not pitch in 2024 or pitch late in
2024 wouldn’t have much negotiating power but never know about
negotiating dynamics—if that’s still going on. Maybe bonus was
agreed to long ago and delay is for other reasons.

By the way, if Wiggins doesn’t sign, Cubs would get a comp pick
in 2024 draft—one pick later than where Wiggins was drafted.
Maybe this gives Cubs some leverage in talks with Wiggins,
especially as he might not pitch before the 2024 draft in any
case.

I think that requires the club to have offered a deal for
≥75% of slot. If the player went to the combine such that
his medicals were available.
