Final score 6 - 2 Pirates. Somehow that number or score seems
ominous. But paranoia strikes deep.
Cubs - 2 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts.
Pirates - 6 runs on 8 hits, 5 walks, and also 9 strikeouts.

Schwindel isn't much better at 4-17 with 5 Ks.
A frank assessment of his future might be the same as Wisdom's

Wisdom had a sure HR taken away by the wind. Frank has also had
a handful of hard hit balls right at people, or been robbed by
great defensive plays (including one today).
Too soon to judge, for sure, but both will definitely be
scrutinized all season long...

I'm definitely a Wisdom non-believer, sorry to say, but
Schwindel going 4-17 with 5 K's isn't that alarming for a small
sample size. In this era, there are lots of guys racking up 5
K's in any given 17 AB's.

The odds were always pretty high he was going to regress to
unplayable, so it's a valid question how much leash you give
him. Villar as the everyday 3B seems like an inevitability.

I think it was certainly fine to give Schwindel the season to
prove himself, as his underlying numbers suggested he might have
legs as a passable offensive player and we were never likely to
compete this year anyway. Wisdom was kind of a dilemma. On a
team trying to win it would be criminal negligence breaking camp
with him penciled in as an everyday player but again, it’s
almost certainly another fire sale summer so a case could be
made to see if he could somehow make enough contact to make his
power usable (as unlikely as that was/is).

They did what they needed to do. They had a
complement/replacement on the roster for each of them. Villar
and Rivas.
