Koyie Hill is the bestest defensive catcher in all of baseball,
now or ever, and any study that says otherwise or any poster who
posts such a study, is a Cub hater and needs to be banned.

Actually, I am going to judge the new regime by how the
following three are handled: Quade, Zambrano, and Hill.

Get rid of Hill.
Keep Zambrano.

Keeping Zambrano is almost a move into bizarro world.
I think there may be a few scenarios in which Z is kept, but a
lot of people, including our owner, would have to swallow a lot
of crow.
I'm just hoping we can get something without paying too much of
his salary.

Starting pitching is the weakest part of the team, and Zambrano
is the third best starter on the staff. His tantrums are an
irritation, but hardly a great problem.

Dave, we discussed this before and you admitted you were driving
to Florida or something or other during the days immediately
following Z's last meltdown and didn't hear or read all the
comments of management, ownership, teammates, and even other
team's gm's. Compelling was that no teammates came to his
defense and the Cubs used lame excuses not to even let him pitch
in September. There were some comments quoted from some minor
Cub officials that there was NO chance Zambrano would come back.
Your argument that the Cubs need arms like Zambrano are sound,
but I really don't see it happening.

Give it up, Dave. Zambrano is a goner, as he should be. Aside
from his unreliability on the mound, Zambrano is at best a
distraction as the Cubs attempt to develop a different and
better team culture.
In any event, if he stayed, I don't believe he'd be the third
best starter. Garza, Dempster and Wells are all preferable to
me - as I think that Wells is much more likely to straighten
himself out than Zambrano is. I expect that Samardzija and/or
Cashner will be in the rotation and outperform Zambrano. That
puts Zambrano no better than #5 in my book and I think it's
likely the Cubs will pick up someone else who will be at least
as effective as well. If the Cubs can get another team to take
on at least $5 million of his salary, so much the better.
Maybe in a different setting Zambrano will get it together, but
I don't think there is any chance he will with the Cubs.
