A new GM is always a scary transition for me as a fan. It took
Pace one draft just to figure it out is how it felt to me after
his first year.
Poles's first draft I like much better. I really think we took
BPA and took players that fit what the coaches are looking for.
I am hopefully optimistic that we are truly in the the
beginnings of a turn around.
This interview told me a lot, it is worth watching.

It was with Elijah Hicks, whom we drafted. He basically said he
wanted to go to Chicago after his pre draft visit. When asked
about that visit he mentioned the visit was different than other
teams. He specifically mentioned the coaches and what they
could teach him.
I have often thought that players get too much credit for their
success in the league. Coaches mean more to win/loss in my
opinion. However you got to have the right player attitude to
be successful. Steelers as a franchise have understood this
historically.
It will still take a couple of years to figure it out. However
unlike many on the board that did not like what Poles did, I
loved it. Time will tell.

The last time I recall them drafting a punter they had a kid
named Tress Way and drafted the (now departed) so called "mega
punt". Well, they let Tress go because, you know "mega punt" was
a draft pick. And Tress way only made a few pro-bowls playing
for the Redskins WTFs Commanders. So much for drafting a
punter.....
That was the most WTF moment in this draft for me) that left me
feeling... uneasy......
I like the fact they parleyed 6 picks into 11, but it feels like
its an "Unbreakable" moment (you know when Dick Vermiel held
open tryouts with the Eagles). They must really, really not like
the in-house talent much and are gambling that a scattershot
effect may work out for them. Here's hoping it does or it will
be a LONG time until the Bears are relevant again and the chants
of "Fire George" will get so loud even Virginia will be able to
hear it without hearing aids.....

the tape of Zack Thomas at San Diego State is impressive.
Braxton Jones looks good, but the quality of opposition at
Southern Utah is highly questionable.
Robinson picked in the 5th round despite never starting just
blows my mind.

Lance Zierline really likes Robinson and said he could be the
steal of the draft.

I'm not complaining about Guards. Gimme three!
Word is Ebner is more of a returner.
That being said Special Teams were addressed. Anyone remember
Devin Hester? We can only hope. ;D
Maybe he's a class A gunner also. 8)

re: the UFAs this guy stood out to me:
Henry Litwin has 206 catches for 3,237 yards and 41 touchdowns
in his career, which is at the top of the Slippery Rock record
book. He has the school record in receiving touchdowns and he is
second in receptions and yards.
supposedly double teamed often, has great hands.

Missed out on day 3 and just now catching up with the draft
picks and the undrafted rookies.
No DTs? Are you kidding me?
Poles must have a plan to bring in somebody or the Bears are
fukked. Big difference when Hicks was out of the lineup last
year. Roquan needs protectors - he's not a prototype 4-3 MLB.
And now not only IS Hicks gone but so is Nichols. Bears did
sign their 2nd FA option Justin Jones. But did Tonga show
enough to pencil him as a starter.? The ONLY other guy is
Angelo Blackson. Pure rotation guy.
That's it! Mario Edwards is a 3-4/4-3 DE not a DT.
Did I miss something?

instead of drafting a guy who didn't start they could have taken
John Ridgeway DT from Arkansas (6'5, 321) taken 4 picks later.
I know athletic freaks rule the sport, but production has to
mean something. The Lions picked LB Malcolm Rodriquez (Oklahoma
State) in the 6th round. He's short but was an incredibly
productive player. I find it hard to believe that a guy who
didn't start is going have a greater impact than an All American
player.
