I dunno - Mooney was drafted in the 5th round so I don't think
anyone including the Bears thought he was nearly a finished
product.
Miller, a 2nd rounder was a failure.
[/quote] I remember that Mooney got hyped by media as soon as
he got to camp. IIRC they were saying he looked like a pro as
soon as he showed up. Kind of hard to give Furrey credit for
that, especially when all the evidence is that he is had much
success at developing WR's.
Robinson was a finished product and already excelled at all the
things Furrey developed receivers are awful at: route running,
knowing route adjustments and actually knowing the plays.
Miller was rarely on the same page as the QB and ran lazy
routes. I dont think Wims ever had the traits to be a
rotational WR that you'd feel good about, so I cant blame Furrey
for that him. Hard to know what the problem is with Ridley, but
there must be one. For a 4th rounder to never really contribute
while remaining healthy is a developmental or scouting failure.
I even remember Gabriel and the QB's not matching
reads/adjustments when he was here.
Someone could easily argue that the fault with qb's and wr's
rarely knowing what the other is doing could be easily blamed on
Nagy's overly complicated scheme. No argument against it, but
all evidence suggests Furrey is bad too.

Agree Miller was a black mark. Wims was a 7th rounder - so not
much was expected. Gabriel was not a legit #2 but was
productive. Ridley is still a work in progress, but he's at
best the 5th WR.
WR productivity is primarily based on talent and internal
motivation but there are other factors. For example, the
coaching, offensive line but the biggest may be the QB. Look at
what Rodgers does with his WR crew year in and year out.
There's a new sheriff in town.

The vibe I get from this game tonite is kind of like when the
Bears went to the new San Francisco stadium opener (the one near
San Jose) and the 9ers where expected by the experts to smoke
them. Instead, they beat the 49ers handily for one of the few
bright spots that season (like 2014 or so). Not saying its going
to happen again but it kind of feels that way....
