And it sounds like Freeman’s asking price is 6/180, rather than
the 6/210 number I floated yesterday…if that 5M/year changes
anyone’s mind on him…

No. Bum shoulder and draft pick/IFA money penalty is too much
of a risk. If he didn't have the penalty then sure.

I'd rather give Rizzo a deal for less money and years. Canha
would have been perfect.

If we are going to be Loveable Losers 2.0, just go get Rizzo and
Bryant and sit back and do nothing else. We won't be any worse
off. Might even challenge the division for third.

If they're going to spend big on anyone, they should just go all
the way and sign Correa.
If they don't want to spend $350 million but are still itching
to give someone a nine-figure contract, I think Stroman should
be the target.

Is it a given that the DH is going to get abolished? Or is that
something the union will only approve in exchange for some other
concession? I assume the Sultan of Schwin is going to be given
a window of opportunity. With DH, signing a good hitting 1B
would make sense even with Schwin. But without, I'd think
they'd probably plan to just role with Schwin.

And speaking of Stroman:

Have heard now from 2 different sources that the Cubs and Marcus
Stroman are hot and heavy in discussion right now. Would
absolutely love that signing.

Not sure his price, but Suzuki, Suzuki, Suzuki. I'd love to
have them pay market and sign him.

Yeah, that should be a priority too. Fangraphs predictions had
him getting 4 years at somewhere in the $40-$45 million range,
so I didn't consider him in the same category as Correa,
Freeman, and Stroman.

Blackhawks we need to add speed, doesn't add speed and team
sucks.
Cubs we need strike out pitchers, adds Wade Miley and Stroman.
Marcus Stroman is a perfectly fine pitcher, if this team had
Bryant/Baez/Rizzo still I'd be excited. They don't and he's
going to 31 next year, by the time the Cubs are ready to win
he's going to be 34/35 and that money can be spent somewhere
better elserwhere. If it's short term then great.

Miley: 6.9
Stroman: 7.94
League Average 2021: 8.62
This is a bad idea for a downgraded defense at 2B/SS/1B next
year.
