Hawkins and Gomes were together with the Indians. Probably not
a coincidence.

I think the Cubs are officially at the “beggars can’t be
choosers” stage at this point. The organization is not a draw
so if they want somebody they have to overpay, and they don’t
have the luxury of worrying about things like clubhouse
chemistry.

"Beggars"?
That sounds like commentary on the 2022 payroll, which we can't
talk about yet.

Figure of speech, LOL. Though maybe not to PTR.
If indeed the Cubs are at the point where sitting out the best
FA class for the foreseeable future because of the "window"
makes sense, what sense does it make to hang on to Contreras or
Hendricks? Maybe you could argue giving Kyle a couple of months
to boost his value after last season makes sense, but beyond
that not so much.

Cubs non-tendered Jason Adam, which is a surprise to me. Thought
he looked good when he came back, and he fits their current
dollar store model.

Adam’s and Hermisillo had a special status that they couldn’t be
removed from the roster until Spring Training if they where
offered contracts. I’d be shocked if they didn’t already have a
minor league deal set up for him.

Yes, the DEP exemption, but what would be the incentive for Adam
to give up that and sign a minor league deal? If he's healthy
he can probably do better.

You can give him the same amount of money on a minor league deal
and get roster flexibility.
