Briggs tells Bears he wants more money

Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, who signed a six-year, $36
million contract with the team in 2008, now wants to rip up the
final three seasons of the deal.
Briggs confirmed to Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune that
the veteran linebacker has approached the team regarding a
raise. G.M. Jerry Angelo declined to comment.
The player’s desire for more money apparently arises from the
wave of new deals given to linebackers in recent weeks.
It’s not the first time Briggs has been unhappy with a contract
that he signed. He complained about a one-year, $7.2 million
franchise tender in 2007, at one point claiming he’d never again
for the Bears. He then signed his current contract with the
Bears after becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2008.
Along the way, the Bears talked to the 49ers about a possible
trade. The Bears accused the Niners of tampering when San Fran
launched contract talks with Briggs. The league eventually
agreed with the Bears, a rare case of the NFL acknowledging a
common (but largely ignored) phenomenon.
Though Briggs has no legitimate basis for complaining about the
back end of a veteran contract that he signed after hitting the
open market (unlike a guy who is strapped with a slotted rookie
deal), the Bears have only themselves to blame for signing
Briggs to a six-year deal. They surely knew that, at some
point, other linebackers would be getting larger contracts. And
they should have realized that, at some point, Briggs was going
to want more, again.
Birggs has missed the two most recent preseason games, with a
bruised knee. He says that the injury and his desire for a new
contract aren’t related.

Briggs can ask all he wants but if he actually trys to hold out
he is a GIANT douche bag!!
He signed the contract he needs to honor it. It is not as if he
is being paid peanuts. He is getting a lot of money to play
football.

Why have a contract if they mean nothing.

Is our offense ever going to score some points? 1 rushing TD and
two FGs... seriously? That's not gonna get it done.
Right now Earl Bennett is the only legit WR on this team. Maybe
Sanzenbacher. Roy Williams, IMO, has played his way to the
bench yet somehow I suspect he'll be a starter come Game 1 of
regular season regardless. Careful what you wish for, I guess,
as he is a big tall WR who is absolutely worthless.
Nice not to have to be sweating the OL (as much, anyway), but
these WRs of ours inspire no confidence at all.

Totally agree,Yapp. Saw a piece on TV about Williams being 'the
mentor' due to his age...about bust out laughing at that! No way
has this guy done ANYTHING to warrant being a mentor to ANY
reciever ANYwhere! His size and the Bears stupidity may see him
on this team but he sure as heck doesn't deserve to be! Bennett
is legit. Hester can do some things deep. Sanzenbacher is the
future. Right now, we've got very little in the cupboard....but
I'm sure Angie is on it BWAHAHAHAHAAA.....ugh....

Briggs is on the downside of his career and he can go fly a kite
IMO. The guy signed a contract...time to honor it and quit
^(&*#(% about not making more 'millions'.....

to go. He cannot be near this team next season if they expect to
show marked improvement on talent on this team. His drafts are
just horrendous and he's dragging this team downward talentwise.
We're right now relying on either FA acquisitions or old talent
(Url, Briggs, Tillman, Cutler, Peppers, Barber). Last time I
checked, you don't build a champion from FA acquisitions! His
drafts have been so horrendous it's hard to remember if there
are any impact players ON the team from recent drafts!

Too bad we dont have a place to archive this to fall back on.
Along with a list of banned words and how to get around them.

Angelo changed his drafting strategy in the 08 draft and it
looks like it is working.
